This underground retro store at Golden Mile Tower features zines, tees, art prints & the works of local indie artists from just S$5

As small as Singapore might be, there is no shortage of underground indie spaces and vintage retro thrift stores

It always pleasantly surprises me to chance upon such stores that I have yet to discover, but don’t worry, I won’t gatekeep the good stuff from y’all.

Nestled in a humble corner of Golden Mile Tower, the old school signage in bold blue font spelling “Teo Locksmith” serves as the storefront for SHRUB

The store has been aptly transformed from its former days to presently embody an eclectic space that displays several apparel and other artistic knick-knacks by local indie artists.

Stepping into the store might feel like a blast from the past, as most of the shop’s interior has not been changed from its original layout, but rather, still peppered with art prints, apparel, and other artistic objects displayed around.

What’s amazing is that a quick glance of the apparel being put on display features iconic artwork from local independent artists like Hause, Zayrerboy, Ppow, and even one of my favourites, deadInside

Aside from apparel like tees, hoodies, and sweatshirts, SHRUB boasts Singapore indie artists in the form of art zines, digital printed art books, art prints, accessories like tote bags and posters, and other indie odds and ends.

The real cherry on top of it all that makes SHRUB so unique in Singapore, is that it is not just a store that sells indie apparel and paraphernalia, but it is also a shared space that allows people to come together and collaborate, explore, create, and discuss.

So it wouldn’t be surprising to catch pop-ups and events happening at SHRUB.

How many underground vintage stores does that? The vibes are just on point with this one.

SHRUB is hard to miss at Golden Mile Tower, and if you would like to see more of their stuff before heading down you can visit their website or socials to see what’s on the ‘menu’!

I know I will be making a trip down to SHRUB soon only to call some of those tees and art zines mine! What about you?
