For one week a year in Singapore, art takes over various locations in the city and heartlands. Artweek 2023 promises to be bigger and more action-packed and louder than before, and you’re invited to join in the festivities from 6 to 15 January 2023!

With over 100 art installations and displays to discover, you’ll get to listen to the stories of the destruction of books (due to their controversial nature), explore how technology has changed romance, and participate in interactive art workshops at Artweek.

This year’s signature art presentation, Pulp III: A Short Biography of the Banished Book by author and filmmaker Shubigi Rao will be held at the ArtScience Museum. Shubigi Rao’s film, Talking Leaves, explores the tales of those at the frontlines of saving books and libraries. From author talks to an in-depth look into the creation of the Singapore Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2022, there’s plenty to see and do here.

If you’re a night owl, the Light to Night Festival will transform the various museums into unique art on their facades, and exciting art-themed activities, as well as a festival market where you can browse a curated selection of merchandise from candles to art prints.

Of course, you can’t miss Artwalk, where Little India and Katong-Joo Chiat come to life with rangoli workshops, cultural tours, and even dinner theatre. Watch as art is made in real time in Liminal States, where dancers — physical manifestations of a sound wave — will perform and leave imprints on the murals.

The heartlands come to life with art too, in a series of void deck parties that encourage visitors to recreate and connect with the games of their childhoods and other participatory exhibitions.

In Bugis, the fun continues as interactive and contemplative art immerse you in the festival atmosphere. Work with strangers as you search for your dinner, hidden in art installations and fun activities. Wander through a neon-themed pastel exhibition that explores failure in a whimsical manner. Rediscover memories of a mall whose history few can remember, and let a series of interviews, archival materials, artistic interventions, and technology tell the story of Peace Centre.
There’s so much more to discover at Artweek 2023, with exciting experiences at every turn, and new perspectives on art!
