Swensen’s Unlimited is a new buffet concept with free flow seafood, halal fare, 48 rotating ice cream flavours and more

by Jermina

Growing up, I’d always ask (and anticipate with much excitement) for the iconic ice cream cake from Swensen’s for my birthday.

Since then, this diner has become a fond memory for my family and I — filled with wholesome vibes and nostalgia that remind us of good times.

I’m sure some of you are nodding your heads as you read this.

Well, I have exciting news because Swensen’s Unlimited is the first international buffet featuring over fifty iconic dishes at the Swensen’s in Changi Airport Terminal 2

All of you easties sure are lucky.

The minute we stepped inside, I felt like I was transported back to the past.

It was completely decked out with its signature red booth seatings and stained glass lights.

But, let’s cut to the chase and talk about the important things — the food

I’m talking about a whole spread of the freshest seafood you’d ever find (think tiger prawns, flower crab, mussels and more), made to order pizza and traditional Peranakan fare.

It’s no surprise that the live station was the crowd favourite as you’ll get to see the chef cooking the pizza and pasta and carving the roasted meats right before your very eyes.

The Roast Striploin was well-seasoned and smoky but it was slightly too well done for my liking.

However, we really enjoyed the seafood on ice with a light drizzle of lemon and balsamic vinegar, especially the fresh prawns that had a mildly sweet flavour.

We basically went to town at the hot dish station and loaded our plates with mini sliders, shepherd’s pie, fried shrimps, and Pan Seared Snail Sausages (don’t worry they’re just shaped like snails).

You don’t have to wait till Christmas (or any festive occasion) to feast again.

The mini sliders were our favourite, alongside the crowd, as it was practically all finished when we got there.

Luckily, they refill the dishes frequently so you don’t have to worry about missing your favourite item.

What I’m most excited for is the ice cream parlour that boasts a milk chocolate fountain for you to dip fresh strawberries into.

With over forty eight rotating ice cream flavours to choose from, we were definitely spoiled for choice.

You know we had to try as many flavours as possible including the classic chewy chocolate, durian, kaya, thin mint and so much more.

Personally, I really enjoyed the chewy chocolate flavour as it reminded me a lot of the Sticky Chewy Chocolate that I’d always get as a child — not to mention it wasn’t overly sweet.

Finish off your ice cream at the toppings section boasting a milk chocolate fountain.

As someone with a massive sweet tooth, it was practically calling my name.

We added mini chocolate chips, churros and the iconic Swensen’s wafer biscuit to add a nice crunch to our decadent dessert.

With such a diverse showcase, it seems like the perfect place for any upcoming birthday celebrations or if you just want to indulge and treat yourself.

Fortunately, Swensen’s has two private rooms for special occasions like birthdays or corporate events (yay!).

Dinner

Overall, I’d say that the price was extremely worth it for the huge selections that they had. I can already foresee huge crowds coming in so I would recommend going earlier or during off peak days.
