However, vintage accessories, specifically jewellery and bags, are enjoying a resurgence lately. More and more people (myself included) are turning to these enduring fashion pieces not only for their quality but also because they make for sound investments.

If you’ve been looking around for such pieces, you’re in luck as there’s a hidden vintage accessories shop in the ever-busting Joo Chiat enclave.

This means you have no reason to not visit Echo Vintage as you can come down after you make a coffee stop at one of the many cafes in the area.

Plus, with the newly opened Marine Parade MRT station just around the corner, you can get your daily steps in by walking there (don’t worry, it’s just a 10 minutes walk!).

As you step inside Echo Vintage, you’ll be warmly welcomed by none other than the owner herself, Echo (yes, that’s her name). But she won’t be alone. Her adorable cat, Calmy, will be by her side.

If you stay long enough, you might be offered a cup of coffee or even a glass of wine when the sun comes down.

One thing you’ll notice right away is how proud Echo is of her selection of vintage goods, from jewellery and clothes to home decor pieces and other trinkets. 

All of the pieces are specially sourced and curated from Europe, USA and Japan, with prices ranging from S$59 to S$300+.

When it comes to their blings, you can shop from a wide selection of Art Deco, Baroque, and Retro jewellery that make for stunning statement pieces. These designs are bold and will command the attention of everyone in the room, so put them on for weddings, extra fancy dinners and special occasions.

Pair these jewellery with their vintage brooches, with some of them dating back to the 1950s. These brooches are available in all sorts of designs, from floral-inspired to portraits of seemingly prominent figures (give me some slack, I’m not the best at history).

For something more suited for everyday wear, their collection of sterling silver jewellery pieces spot a less conspicuous design. They also have fabric bracelets, pearl earrings and chain necklaces from luxury houses like Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

Want to invest in a luxury bag but not willing to splurge thousands of dollars? Vintage designer bags make for a great alternative. You can find classic Prada baguette shoulder bags, YSL mini tote bags, Tod’s shoulder bags and many more here.

At a humble corner store where Sun Fatt’s Watch Dealer used to be, now sits Resurrack as the newest addition to the already extensive list of thrift stores at this shopping mall.

From its panelled glass doors to the original stencilled store name against LED signs, the storefront screams vintage and retro vibes, so Resurrack has really done a fantastic job in bringing out the indie feels of this place.

Stepping inside Resurrack reminded me of scenes from a Wong Kar Wai film and the vibes were just immaculate.

There were racks on racks of vintage and graphic tees, boasting a wide collection of Y2K clothes, band shirts, and even Harley Davidson tees from a price range of S$18 to S$40. I took so long going through all of the choices because there were just too many good ones!

Of course it was not limited to just t-shirts. There were also denim bottoms like miniskirts, shorts, and baggy jeans that were all below S$30. 

There were even sports jackets and vests that look like they came out from an Archie’s comic book. Talk about 90s nostalgia?

But what caught my eye was the fascinating collection of vintage digital cameras and film cameras on sale.

Photography enthusiasts should keep a look out for this one because you can even try out these cameras, but do remember to bring your own SD card! 

Resurrack also has classic toys for sale at one for S$12 and three for S$30, as well as indie vinyl records for collectors. 

Do take note that they are only open three days a week, so plan your trip down to avoid disappointment.
