Is Love, Joy & Coffee all one needs in life?
Perhaps you might find the answer at this cosy, under-the-radar cafe tucked away in the bustling Velocity @ Novena Square.
We hear the folks here make a solid coffee — you’ve got classic options like White (S$5.50) and Single Origin Coffee (from S$4.90) — but fans of K-style beverages would probably enjoy the Einspanner (S$7), served with a delightful cream top.
Alternatively, go for the Strawberry Matcha Latte (S$7.80), the one drink we’ve been seeing everywhere on social media, which features homemade strawberry compote and ceremonial-grade matcha.
There’s also the Injeolmi Latte (S$7.90), another cream-topped concoction crowned with handmade mochi, as well as the Mint Chocolate (S$6.70) — this is typically only offered at cafes during the year-end festive season, so fans of this combo (myself included) are in luck!
As for food, take your pick from an impressive selection of subs (sandwiches), all-day breakfast, and brunch plates.
Crowd favourites include the Smokin’ Sub (S$12.80), comprising smoked salmon, smashed potato salad, and a ramen egg; and the Grilled P&P (S$16.80), served loaded with all the works — roast beef pastrami, portobello mushrooms, caramelised onions, sauerkraut, cheddar, and mustard on grilled sourdough.
For something even more substantial, the LJC Breakfast (S$13.80) comes with scrambled eggs, potato salad, a Kielbasa chicken sausage, and instead of the usual toast, a croffle with syrup and butter.
However, the cafe is perhaps better known for their unique sweet treats.
For instance, why opt for boring ol’ acai bowls when you can take it up a notch with the Acai + Croffle (S$9.80), served with homemade granola and your choice of Nutella or peanut butter? We’re not sure whether this is considered “healthy”, though.
Another fun option, especially for those who can’t take caffeine, is the Strawberry Tiramisu (S$10.80), a deconstructed dessert composed of fresh strawberries, mascarpone cheese, homemade strawberry compote, ladyfinger biscuits, and whipped cream.
Regulars flock here for the Signature Banana Bread with Espresso Mascarpone (S$9.80), as well as the locally-inspired “Ah Kun” Coconut Cake (S$8.80), homemade coconut pandan cake with artisanal coconut yogurt and Ya Kun kaya.
All things considered, Love, Joy & Coffee feels like the perfect spot to seek respite away from the crowds, on days when all you need is coffee and a bit of solitude.
