It’s a tofu party over at Singapore’s first tofu-based gelato, Tofu G. Tofu is soy versatile, but I never expected to see it churned into gelato. Here, indulge in a guilt-free snack — high-protein, low-fat gelato.

Inspired by the traditional Korean method of grinding soybeans with a millstone, the interior reflects a similar blast to the past. Tucked away at one end of Mandarin Gallery, the pop-up is designed like a modern hanok with warm, dim lighting and rustic wooden furniture.
Heads up, the tiny space gets crowded quickly after lunch and dinnertime, so plan your trip accordingly.

Freshly churned in front of you, you’re welcome to sample all six flavours before making a decision. Grab a single scoop in a Cup (S$8), or if you’re not feeling gelato, try the Sun Tofu Soft Serve (S$7) instead.
All menu items can be upgraded to a Cone for an additional S$1.

Of course, the star of the show is the Original Tofu Gelato, which is also available in a High Protein variation with extra soy protein (gym rats, we see you). Both are vegan-friendly and dairy-free, and made using non-GMO soybeans.
This was ultra-thick and creamy, and reminded me of salty soybeans. It was also sweeter than expected, which is ironic considering Tofu G’s healthy branding.

Our favourite flavour has to be the Chodang Sweet Corn. With fresh corn kernels, this was strangely addictive (and that’s coming from somebody who doesn’t even like corn).
It was certainly the sweetest flavour we tried, and reminded us of those ice cream runs to our friendly neighbourhood ice cream uncles.
On the other hand, we couldn’t fully appreciate the intense Black Sesame flavour. It’s probably geared towards a more mature audience, or people who love this bold and nutty flavour.

Other flavours include the earthy Korean Purple Sweet Potato and Pistachio with real nut bits.
While the concept and flavours were intriguing, our team wasn’t sure if a single scoop was worth the hefty S$8 price. Honestly, there are similar local desserts, like tau huay bean curd, for less than half the cost. Regardless, it’s worth a try to tick off your checklist.
Tofu G will be opening a flagship store soon, but details are still under wraps.
Will you be heading down to see what’s soy good about tofu gelato?
