Konnichiwa to all our fans who are passionate about all things Japanese cuisine. Whether it’s Sushi Tei or Kiwami Ramen & Gyoza Bar, we’re sure that there are never enough Japanese restaurants that offer the true, authentic Japanese experience.
Well, we have good news! Udon Shin has finally touched down in Singapore, making it their first international outlet outside of Tokyo, Japan. The best part is, we were one of the lucky few who managed to get the first look at their Singapore branch, and here’s our main takeaway.

Located within Takashimaya Shopping Centre’s basement, alongside other well-known Japanese eateries such as Nakajima Suisan and Yonehachi, Udon Shin is part of the mix.
Just like how Udon Shin is popular in Shibuya among Japanese netizens, it also received the same amount of adoration from Singaporeans. From the fully booked outlet filled with hungry customers, and the comforting smells of Udon broth filling the air, we were excited to try our fair share of the udon too.

One thing Udon Shin takes great pride in is their handmade noodles. Every morning without fail, the kitchen team crafts them from scratch, ensuring that each strand is perfectly chewy, silky and true to what you’d expect from authentic Udon.
Even with its cosy, intimate setting, Udon Shin offers an impressive range of dishes. Whether you like your Udon hot, cold, or in soup, there’s something to satisfy every craving.

We tried the cult favourite Carbonara Udon (S$24), Premium Tempura Kake Udon (S$34), and Tempura Zaru Udon (S$28). All three Udon dishes left us speechless, especially when each bite was packed with bold, comforting flavours.
The Carbonara Udon is as fun as it sounds. Packed with chewy udon noodles coated in creamy parmesan cheese, milky butter, and runny raw egg, it’s an interesting fusion dish that would keep adventurous foodies on their toes.
Not to mention the crispy fried Bacon Tempura, which is the highlight of the dish, where its Bacon is coated in flour and deep fried to achieve the tempura crispiness. Upon taking a bite, we were blown away by how compatible Udon and Carbonara were; we ended up finishing the entire bowl in one sitting!

Our next target was the Tempura Zaru Udon, served on a bamboo tray with dipping sauce, along with crispy tempura vegetables and shrimp. You can elevate the experience even more by opting to order the Kake hot or cold broth with premium Tempura. The premium Tempura includes the usual vegetables and shrimp, alongside with Salmon and Squid. Overall, the entire elevated experience is priced at S$34.
Personally, we enjoyed the Carbonara Udon more for its strong, distinctive flavours. But if you’re a Udon connoisseur, you’ll definitely enjoy the Tempura Zaru Udon more.

There are also alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, such as Sapporo Beer, but the Iced Earl Grey tea was refreshing enough to clear our palate in between the dishes.
Overall, the Udon experience was incredible, which goes to say that Udon Shin truly never disappoints. Lucky for us, the store is open daily from 11am to 10pm. It’s the best spot for Udon lovers to treat themselves and end the week on a high note.
