Start off by choosing your soup bases, which obviously has to be the Signature Laksa Soup (S$15). We recommend going for the more value-for-money Twin Pots, such as the Laksa Soup + Chicken Soup option, also priced at S$15.

The star of the show, the laksa broth, was rich, thick, and spicy, nicely balanced out with coconut milk, and full-bodied in flavour.

If you’ve been living under a rock and have never had 328 Katong laksa, it boasts the kind of hotpot broth that will make your eyes water. You might even end up sneezing a few times. But you continue slurping it down satisfyingly, despite the beads of sweat that run down your face — it’s just that addictive.

If everything starts tasting a tad too rich, balance it out with sips of the clean-tasting yet comforting Chicken Soup.

The best part? All soup bases are free-flow, so feel free to ask for as many refills as you like!

Ingredients-wise, there are over 50 a la carte options to choose from.

You can pile your plate with meats like Sliced Pork Belly (S$7.80), Smoked Duck (S$8.80), Beef Tripe (S$7.80), and Sliced US Beef (S$10.80), which had a surprisingly decent fat-to-meat ratio, soaking up all that slurp-worthy broth.

In fact, both my dining partner and I didn’t feel the need for any additional dipping sauces, given how flavourful the laksa was on its own.

Amp up the flavour with seafood like Tiger Prawn (S$8.80), Lala (S$5.80), Ebiko Prawn Paste (S$12.80), and, of course, Cockles (S$6), because what’s a good bowl of laksa without hum?

Despite not being a fully-fledged hotpot joint, they’ve got an extensive selection of vegetables, rice and noodles (we recommend the S$1 Thick Rice Vermicelli for the full laksa experience) and even a Classics section with all the good stuff.

Think Fish Ball with Roe (S$8.80), Beef Meat Ball (S$6.80), Cheesy Seafood Toufu (S$5.80), and Ring Roll (S$2.20), just to name a few.

Pair your hotpot with sides commonly served at dim sum eateries, like Prawn Roll (S$8.80) and Crispy Luncheon Meat (S$6.80).

There are even sweet “dessert” options like White Taro Custard Ball (S$4.50), oozing with custard, as well as the Glutinous Rice Cake with Brown Sugar Syrup (S$5.80) for fans of all things chewy and mochi-like.

Of course, those not in the mood for bubbling hotpot (the weather has been kinda ridiculous as of late) can opt for the regular Laksa (from S$7.30), served chock full of prawns, fish cakes, cockles, and beansprouts, which you’ve got to eat with their super shiok sambal.

Will you be satisfying your laksa hotpot cravings at 328 Katong Laksa soon?
