Who doesn’t love a good, salty shio pan that’s crisp on the outside yet buttery on the inside? Well, Bread & Better Bakery is a new bakery to add to your Johor Bahru itinerary the next time you cross the border.

B&B Bakery is all about shio pan, the popular Japanese salt bread with that signature soft but satisfyingly chewy texture. What’s more, they offer a wide array of flavours starting from just S$2.

Located around 10 minutes from the checkpoint, just look for the giant croissant sculpture perched on the roof (but make no mistake, a shio pan is a far cry from the flaky croissant).

Apparently, B&B Bakery sold out 1,000 shio pans on their first day of opening. If that’s any indication of the bakery’s quick rise to popularity, you’ll want to be there bright and early.
Baked fresh in-house daily by Taiwanese chef Hugo Wang, who has 22 years of experience in the food industry, each bread is made using Japanese flour and high-quality butter.

There are over 10 sweet and savoury flavours to choose from, like Olive Herbs for MYR 6.90 (S$2.09), Mochi for MYR 7.90 (S$2.39), Rose Coco for MYR 8.90 (S$2.70), and Red Bean Butter for MYR 11 (S$3.33).
Other flavours include Pistachio, Truffle, and Black Sesame.

While the shio pans are their specialities, their other sweet treats are equally as tempting, with mini cakes in flavours such as Thai Green Milk Tea for MYR 16.90 (S$5.12), Pistachio Forest for MYR 16.90 (S$5.12).
There are even classic bakes like Portuguese Egg Tarts.

B&B Bakery currently bakes a maximum of 1,000 buns daily, and during their soft launch, each customer is limited to five shio pans (which is honestly still plenty for one person).
They tend to sell out by midday, so if you’re a carb lover, head out bright and early (seriously, be there by 11am or be prepared to leave empty-handed).
