Singapore’s first-ever Caribbean restaurant opens in Kampong Bugis serving up authentic dishes like Jerk BBQ Pork Ribs, Curried Goat, Trinidad Doubles with Chickpea Curry and more

The closest I’ve gotten to trying Caribbean food? Probably never. So when I heard about Camp Caribbean, my foodie radar went off. If you’re someone who loves trying out new cuisines, this spot should be at the top of your list.

Let’s start with a little background: Camp Caribbean is led by Jamaican-born Chef Ricardo Allen, who was influenced deeply by his grandmother to learn how to cook. Previously a headliner at Lime Restaurant and the head chef at Trident Hotel, he’s bringing those bold flavours back to Singapore.

The menu is a whole vibe. I’ve got my eyes on the Trinidad Doubles with Chickpea Curry (S$13) — a beloved street food from the beautiful Trinidad and Tobago. Imagine fluffy Bara deep-fried flatbreads covered in curried chickpeas. I’m salivating just at the thought of it.

Of course, they are famous for their Jerk dishes. For the uninitiated, “Jerk” refers to Jamaica’s iconic style of cooking where meat is either dry-rubbed or wet-marinated with a hot spice mixture. Choose from items like Jerk Chicken (S$18), Jerk Stingray (S$27), Jerk BBQ Pork Ribs (S$34 for 1/2 rack), and more! Though, I would advise bringing friends down to try them all out.

The Curried Goat (S$20) and Oxtail with Spinners (S$22) have also caught my attention. Goat meat may sound exotic but I’ve heard that it’s sweeter and milder than other cuts, and what better way to try it than pairing this with comforting curry?

You can’t forget the sides. Whether it be Fried Plantain (S$8), Rice and Peas (S$5), Jerk Corn Ribs (S$10), or other items, these are the perfect companions to your Caribbean feast.

And, of course, no meal is ever complete with desserts and that holds true even in Caribbean culture. Wrap up your meal with Grilled Pineapple with Ice Cream (S$12) or the White Chocolate Bread Pudding (S$15). Both would prove to be a satisfying ending to an indulgent feast.

Psst, they are located in Gourmet Park Kampong Bugis which is pet-friendly, so you can bring your furbabies along for a day out!
