Can Everybody See My Screen? lets you step into an IG-worthy cyberpunk-esque world

by Trinity Sun

Singapore Art Museum’s latest exhibition, Can Everybody See My Screen? is one interesting and IG-worthy cyberpunk-esque world you can explore when it opens from 9 September to 11 December 2022

A cyberpunk future might just be in the cards as people increasingly rely more on technology, and this particular exhibition explores the codependence we have on technology through a series of funky interactive installations.

You’ll get to create your own personalised avatar in Narcissus Pixelus, which gives visitors the chance to create their digital selves in an arcade machine, which you can even print out.

In Life Circuit, which is a display full of headsets and screens, watch as the installation creates a tangled series of connections to its user, mimicking the many devices we use and are connected to.

A colourful interactive video wall seems normal at first, but upon closer inspection, the people in the videos are all sad, and is a commentary on how people sacrifice their true feelings for a moment of all fame. You can pick the song to listen to as well, controlling the people in the video with your choice.

Try your hand at a claw machine, but with a twist – some of the capsules contain ‘love’, which gets you a limited-edition print from the artist, and some do not, simulating how online dating sites and apps work, you never know who you’re going to ‘get’.

Can our memories be converted into electricity? Prospectus for a Future Body converts movement memories into electrical impulses, creating a dystopian-esque piece where people themselves power the screen with their memories.

End off your visit with i.Mirror, a 28-minute film about a woman who lives in both the real world and the digital world, but soon realises both her worlds cannot exist together without eventually coming into conflict.

An intriguing take on a techno future, Can Everybody See My Screen? is definitely worth a visit!
