Tokyo’s viral kakigori sensation opens first outlet in Drips Bakery Cafe with Singapore-exclusive flavour and favourites like Classic Strawberry Shortcake, Pistachio Chocolate and more

Singapore’s weather is basically summer all year round. And what better way to cool down than with a mountain of impossibly fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth shaved ice?

Enter Sakanoue, one of Tokyo’s Top 10 kakigori spots, finally making its permanent home in Singapore after two wildly successful pop-ups. Come 4 April 2025, you can get your hands on these viral, parfait-like kakigori creations at Drips Bakery Cafe from 1pm to 9pm daily — until they sell out.

Unlike regular ice, Sakanoue uses Junpyo or “pure” ice, which is frozen slowly over 72 hours. Denser ice, purer, and melts slower, so you can actually enjoy your kakigori instead of racing against time (though with Singapore’s heat, it’s basically nothing).

Each kakigori is also layered like a parfait, with surprise tidbits hidden within, ensuring every spoonful is a mix of flavours and textures. No boring ice piles here!

Oh, but if you wanna take photos, make sure to do it within 10 seconds or your mountain might collapse.

Luckily for us, we got the chance to try out some.

Created just for our Little Red Dot, this Singapore exclusive, Blackforest Kaikigori (S$19.80), is inspired by Drips Bakery’s iconic Blackforest Cake.

With layers of chocolate, brandied cherries, cheese sauce, and crunchy bits, this was a whole experience. Oh, and it comes with cherry brandy liqueur on the side for a little boozy drizzle. Just a heads-up, it’s got a strong alcohol kick, so maybe not for the lightweights (admin is calling herself out).

We also tried out Lemon Mascarpone Kakigori (S$17.50) which was my personal favourite.

If you love citrusy desserts, you’ll love this lemony, tangy, creamy delight. The espuma mascarpone, lemon sauce, raisin sauce, mascarpone cheese sauce, and meringue cookies make every bite a zesty dream.

These are some of the other popular picks.

The Classic Strawberry Shortcake Kakigori (S$17.50) is a sweet, berry-filled treat that never disappoints. Or opt for the Sakanoue Berry Cute Panda Kakigori (S$18), Pistachio Chocolate Kakigori (S$18.80), or even the Blazing Fire Cheese Kakigori (S$19.80).

From 4 April 2025 to 20 April 2025, every kakigori order comes with a complimentary hot or iced Momo Sencha or Sakura Spring Tea. Plus, you get 15% off all tarts and bakes at Drips Bakery Cafe, a perfect excuse to try more treats!

Drips Bakery is also launching two new pastries, Black Sesame Mochi Danish (S$5.50) and Okonomiyaki Danish (S$5). We slightly preferred the latter but we do have a preference for savoury pastries.

With Singapore’s scorching heat, Sakanoue’s kakigori is pretty much the ultimate cool-down treat.

So, are you heading down to get the fluffiest shaved ice from Drips x Sakanoue?
