For the second instalment of our Out Of Office (OOO) series, the team set out to catch up on deadlines and give a bittersweet send-off to a valuable member of the editorial team.
It’s a devastating loss for the department, but in her honour, we’ll continue the painful task of pun-writing for our readers. We walked so Glenda could pun. We miss her already.

Meeting: Editorial Send-Off
11 July 2025 / 1.30pm–3.30pm / Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe @ 111 Somerset
Attendees:
Editorial x Marketing (8 hungry girlies… again)
Agenda:
- Pig out (during office hours, obviously)
- Sip the latest, piping hot office tea
- Send off our beloved intern Glenda, our pun connoisseur and pet aficionado
Notes:
1pm
Wing Xin: Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe looked like a page straight out of a history book. I was instantly drawn to the wall in the middle of the store, decorated with row upon row of traditional snacks and blue tiles. The space bore a comforting old-school charm, with its marble-top tables and rustic wooden chairs.

2pm
This was supposed to be a productive working session, so we had our laptops out. Although, that quickly went off the rails as we looked through the menu.
Maeve: Everybody was freaking out over the drinks, which were intentionally overfilled. I managed to get this shot of the overflowing cup, and it’s a great shot (if I do say so myself).

Maeve: The DIY Coconut Latte was so much fun to pour, although everybody’s favourite drinks were definitely the Har Ka Sai and Sai Ka Har.
Being completely clueless, we had no idea what these drinks were, but turns out they’re indulgent blends of Milo with tea and coffee, respectively.
Peep this candid shot of Eunice while Yan captures the heartwarming moment with her camera.

3pm
The food came out quickly, and everything smelled amazing. Our table was piled high with so many local delights, from Moonlight Hor Fun (which, by the way, is so fun to jiggle) to a bubbling pot of Fish Head Curry.

Wing Xin: As a diehard cauliflower lover, the Claypot Cauliflower had my heart. Also, I didn’t really have a choice since two of the dishes contained prawns (shoutout to my prawn allergy).
Maeve: I really loved the fish head curry and especially enjoyed ladling the curry over rice. However, picking the flesh out of the pot was quite a chore.

Of course, we couldn’t go without any sweet treats. The Kaya Butter Toast with handmade kaya delivered with its crunchy bread and sinful slab of butter. The Peanut Butter French Toast was on the eggier side, but hey, no complaints.

Wing Xin: Bottoms up! It was my fellow intern’s last day today, and I couldn’t be sadder to say goodbye to this energetic ball of sunshine.
Everybody went in a round to reveal first impressions of each other and leave Glenda with heartfelt, encouraging words (many tears were shed).
4pm
It’s back to the office, but not before snapping group pictures for our memory bank (and this article, because our readers come first).

Key Findings:
- Glenda may be signing off, but her edits live on
- Pun-writing is way harder than it looks
- Don’t feed Wing Xin or Kris shellfish
Actionables:
- Try to patch the Glenda-sized hole in our hearts
- Lock in the next OOO location (we’re always open to suggestions)
- Start researching for our mega SG60 article
Conclusion:
Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe is honestly a great spot for your afternoon meetings (if your meetings require caffeine, local bites, and photo ops). Like us, you could even stage your breakups here. It’s not technically that serious, but it sure feels like it. From deadlines to goodbyes, this one hit us right in the feels.
