Melt hearts, not just glass at your next date at SG’s first glass flower workshop in Tai Seng

by Glenda Chong

They don’t wilt. They don’t need water. And best of all, they last forever. These flowers are forged in fire and frozen in beauty.

Welcome to Singapore’s first glass flower workshop at Gurasu House, where it’s anything but fragile!

Located in Tai Seng, this is the perfect date idea (and gift you can exchange with your partner!).

If you’re unfamiliar with the art of making glass flowers, I’ve got you.

First, be sure to DM Gurasu House’s Instagram account to book yourself a slot beforehand.

Not to worry if you’ve got no green thumbs or glasswork skills. It’s totally beginner-friendly, with a helpful instructor and a safety briefing provided as you’ll be working with an open flame.

That’s right. Lampworking is involved in the process, meaning you’ll be shaping glass using a torch to make your flower.

From melting glass rods to shaping the flower petals and leaves, and assembling the flowers, you’ll be hands-on in guiding molten glass to become a blooming beauty.

As for what kind of flower you’re making, every flower is unique to your crafting style! But within just one session itself, you’ll be able to craft a lampwork glass flower with six to nine petals and one to two leaves depending on your crafting pace.

You can also customise the colours of your bloom. Pick up to three colours from their selection (subject to availability), with extra colours available at S$5 per colour.

Once you’ve completed your masterpiece, your work will have to cool for two hours after the session. They’ll only keep your piece for two weeks, so don’t forget to pick it up.

Think you can handle the heat and fashion your first glass flower?
