Quiz time: what comes after Halloween and ends with -mas? Yes, I’m talking about Christmas!
Even with all the fun and jam-packed Halloween festivities going on around us, I already find myself eagerly looking forward to Christmas. And what better way to get into the Christmas spirit — besides blasting Mariah Carey — than to bask in the Orchard Road Christmas light ups?
By now, it is almost a tradition for most of us to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous lights that illuminate the streets of town whenever Christmas rolls around and this year is no different.
From 16 November 2023 to 1 January 2024, Orchard Road Christmas light-up 2023 will begin from Tanglin Road, spanning 3.1km of pretty Christmas lights. This year is a little special because it is the 40th anniversary of the Orchard Road Christmas light-up, and you can bet that the organisers pulled out all the stops to make this year’s light up even more festive.
The theme for this year is Christmas on a Great Street and features roads lined with cotton candy hued lights. As you navigate through the streets, don’t forget to look up at the floating ‘clouds’ in the night skies spanning pretty shades of pastel pinks and blues.
Unleash your inner child through an imaginative cotton candy dreamscape filled with childlike wonder such as teddy bears, candy canes, reindeers and other cute Christmas ornaments.
Of course, we cannot go through Christmas without its centrepiece: the tree!
Remember last year’s strikingly grand Dior Christmas tree standing proud and tall outside ION Orchard? Well, this year, you can certainly expect fanciful trees dressed to the nines in shopping malls like Ngee Ann City, Paragon, Tanglin Mall and more.
Be it on foot or on wheels, there is enough Christmas magic to surround yourself around with and take in.
On top of that, there is also going to be a Christmas Eve street party taking place on 24 December 2023 from 8pm to 12.30am, along with the return of the three Christmas villages outside Shaw House, Ngee Ann City, and Plaza Singapura.
You know what this means? Fun! There’s going to be exciting carnival rides and games, as well as pop-up stores selling locally-designed crafts, and of course F&B kiosks. The Christmas villages will also feature themed bouncy castles with a fun slide, a balloon dome, mascot meet-and-greet activities, as well as craft workshops from Kiztopia.
The Orchard Road Christmas light-up 2023 is going to be an exciting one not only for families, but for couples and friends alike.
So what are you waiting for? Mark your calendars and prepare to head down for a whimsical Christmas with Orchard Road this year!
