Nothing sounds better than a bowl of refreshing zaru soba (cold soba) for Singapore’s hot and humid weather — and you’ll get just that and more at this humble hawker-turned-soba restaurant located in Bedok.
Specialty Japanese restaurants are typically hard to find, given that they are hidden away in the heartlands, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist! Serving up bowls and bowls of delicately prepared handmade soba, Reiwa Soba Honten is an absolute hidden gem that definitely deserves more recognition!
As you step into the restaurant, you’ll find yourself greeted by a Japanese-inspired interior with warm lighting, light wood accents and overall zen vibes — the perfect ambience to enjoy your soba in after a long day.
Sit down and tuck into a serving of cold Traditional Zaru Soba (S$10) served with the usual sesame, leek, wasabi, seaweed and of course — the savoury dipping sauce.
If you’re more into warm and soupy noodles, there’s also the Traditional Kake Soba (S$10) served with leek, tang oh, kamaboko (fishcake) and yuzu peel.
For spicy food lovers, try the Reiwa Chicken Soba (S$10) and Reiwa Pork Soba (S$12) served with the restaurant’s signature chilli oil sauce. As for something a little more exotic and unique, order the Mango Salada Soba (S$10) served with tangy green mango.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Japanese dining experience without some sashimi involved — order three kinds of seasonal sashimi from only S$24, or simply opt for ala carte ones like the RYUKYU Sashimi Zuke, a marinated amberjack sashimi (from S$12) and many other tantalising sides.
