You’ve probably heard of Tiffany and Co.’s signature Blue Box Cafe or Vivienne Westwood’s bar restaurant in Shanghai, China. But I found out that there’s another high-end brand that entered the food and beverages (F&B) industry recently. 

It’s none other than the Coach Restaurant, bracing its presence within Singapore. Located at Jewel Changi Airport, just next to the Coach retail outlet, is the brand’s first-ever flagship restaurant. 

Once you enter the restaurant, the chic interior will give off the impression that you’re in the heart of New York City (NYC). It’s complete with cosy leather nooks, wall decorations based on NYC pop culture, and even an iconic full-sized yellow taxi that looms over you while you’re dining in. 

What immediately stands out is the elegant tableware—think leather coasters, stitched menu covers, and a polished layout that reflects the same attention to detail Coach is known for. The words “The Coach Restaurant” can be found embossed in the menu covers, giving a nod to the brand’s craftsmanship and collections.

Other than the pretty interior, guests also get to dine with an even more luxurious view of the Rain Vortex. If the seats by the Rain Vortex are already occupied, take a seat by the open woodfire kitchen to get a close-up look at the chefs and their work. 

Speaking of culinary geniuses, the former head chef Kurt Sombrero, from Burnt Ends and Meatsmith Little India, is the mastermind behind the creative twist of steakhouse classics and embodies the brand’s signature feel. 

Some steakhouse classics that caught my eye were the  Caviar-topped Black and White Bagel (S$18) and Crab Cakes (S$30). The bagel mimics the classic black and white New York City cookies, while the crab cakes bring a familiar coastal flavour with a touch of Old Bay seasoning.

More classic options are the USDA Prime Cuts Rib-Eye 250g (S$90) and Japanese Satsuma Wagyu A5 Striploin (S$95), each served with roasted garlic and pats of creamy, thick butter shaped in the iconic Coach signature ‘C’. 

If you’re not a big fan of steaks, there are also other seafood and poultry options such as the Dover Sole (S$130) with citrus caper brown butter, lemon thyme roasted chicken and Maine Lobster (S$95) seared over open flames, finished with black pepper hollandaise. 

Dessert lovers with a sweet tooth are in for a treat—the 20-Layer Chocolate Cake (S$18), Flaming PB&J Bombe Baked Alaska (S$18), S’mores (S$12) and more.

What’s a steakhouse without the alcohol experience? You’ll be spoilt for choice, especially with over 90 bottles of all-American wine, from the most affordable Sauvignon Blanc (S$110) to the most prestigious choice of Cabernet Sauvignon (S$18,000). 

Lucky for all, the restaurant is open daily, from 11.30am to 10pm. Perfect for a birthday celebration with loved ones or an intimate night with your partner.  Or better yet, treat yourself to a solo date with this luxurious experience. 

And hey, who says you can’t cure your food coma with some nice retail therapy (hint: maybe it’s time to snatch that Coach bag you’ve been eyeing)?

Well, if you’re seeking out somewhere to satisfy your cravings, this place in the East might do the trick.

Ipoh Town Kopitiam has officially made its debut in Singapore with its first outlet being in Jewel Changi — now, you can have a taste of Ipoh delicacies without actually travelling overseas. 

Not to mention, this place would be perfect for those who are missing the familiar taste of Asian flavours, especially after touching down from a long red eye flight. 

Savour the traditional flavours and taste of nostalgia with the Nasi Ayam Goreng Berempah (S$12.90) boasting coconut rice served with a huge slab of tender, crispy fried chicken leg seasoned in a harmonious blend of over 10 Malay spices. Pair it with the spicy belacan chilli to add a fiery oomph that will keep you coming back for more. 

If you have any Malaysian pals who are feeling a little homesick, the “homely” and comforting flavours of this dish might just lift their spirits.

Spice it up with the hearty Ipoh Chicken Soup Hor Fun (S$12.90), which sees smooth and silky flat rice noodles imported directly from Ipoh itself, bathed in an extremely flavorful yet “clean-tasting” broth with a tinge of sweetness from the prawns.

If you’re feeling boujee that day, why not top up an additional S$5 for two luxurious pieces of scallop? 

It’s definitely a dish that’s uniquely Malaysian, but nonetheless, packs a punch which may just be what you need for dinner. 

It’s no secret that Singaporeans’ favourite breakfast of choice is good ol’ kaya and toast, but have you ever had Fragrant Curry Toast with Soft Boiled Egg (S$4.90)? 

It may look unassuming at first, but the curry actually carried quite a spicy kick to it so the creaminess from the soft boiled eggs definitely helped. Now I can see why it is such a popular breakfast choice back in Ipoh as this unique combination warms your stomach right up. 

That’s not the only thing that you can look forward to. Choy Kee Bakery — a renowned brand in Ipoh — will also be making its first venture in Singapore. Look forward to Ipoh’s famous Egg Tarts (S$2.40) featuring smooth, melt-in-your-mouth egg custard encased in an irresistible flaky pastry crust.

Hopefully, you don’t have to wait in line for hours just to have a taste of it (fingers crossed).

Those who aren’t in a rice or noodles kinda mood, why not fill yourself up with light snacks like the fried or steamed dim sum? This includes the likes of Fried Char Siew Bao (S$6.90 for three pieces), Kaya Puff (S$2.40), and Siew Mai (S$6.90 for three pieces).

Other snacks included the Rendang Pie (S$3.50) featuring a buttery crust and tender beef chunks. The only gripe that I had was that the rendang could afford to be more seasoned, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless.

Of course, you can’t miss out on the Ipoh “Overjoy” White Coffee (S$4.90 for ice) and (S$3.50 for hot) that is definitely a must-order. For those who are unfamiliar with it, you may have seen the iconic “overflowing” coffee look all over your FYP. 

Unlike the typical “overflowing” kopi, the coffee beans are roasted with margarine rather than sugar and butter. 

Since the rest of the dishes were already rich in flavour, the bittersweetness from the coffee married with the creamy condensed milk really helped to balance out the greasiness.

So the next time you’re bringing your entire kampung down and looking to impress your fellow aunties or uncles, you know where to go.

Opened by the same team behind Louisiana seafood bucket concept Cajun on Wheels, Sampanman pays homage to Singapore’s history as a fishing village, most notably, the traditional Southeast Asian seafaring ethnic groups (like the orang laut) that lived on wooden boats.

That’s why the fresh and hearty seafood platters they specialise in — Singapore’s first “Boat Seafood” — are all served in custom-made griller sampan boats.

The largest platter of the lot, the XXL Fisherman Sampan (S$238), comprising Sri Lankan Crab, Boston Lobster, Prawns, Flower Clams, Mussels, Half Shell Scallop, Mantou Bun, Macaroni, and a choice of sauce, can feed up to six diners. It’s a feast, ya’ll.

Those who’ve dined at Cajun on Wheels will be familiar with this repertoire of sauces, with classics like the beloved Singapore Chilli Crab and Salted Egg Yolk, as well as the less traditional Sichuan Mala, Herbs and Butter, and Cheesy Soil.

Diners are also given the option of building their own sampan, so you can take your pick from the assortment of seafood, in varying sizes, and go all out!

Don’t forget to supplement your sampan feast with other sumptuous dishes like the Butterfly River Prawns (from S$14), Flower Clams with Tom Yum or Sambal Chilli (S$22), and even Chinese skewers (from S$1.50).

Not to be missed is the signature Truffle Buttermilk Crab Bee Hoon Soup (S$48), rice vermicelli (bee hoon) and a whole crab cooked in a milky broth with yam, nai bai, and aromatic truffle paste.

Prefer a lighter meal? You can find different varieties of comforting Bee Hoon Soup (from S$9) and Seafood Soup with Rice set meals — a great option for smaller eaters and solo diners.

Whether you’re hosting friends from abroad or celebrating a special occasion with family, this is one spot that’ll definitely make for a memorable communal dining experience. I guess we’ll sea you at Sampanman, then?

But suppose you’re looking to treat yourself (and maybe even your loved ones from abroad) to a sumptuous feast showcasing the best of Japanese yakiniku without having to leave the airport. In that case, Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku is where it’s at.

The restaurant was established in Hong Kong more than a decade ago, becoming a popular go-to for premium A4 and A5 wagyu cuts from Miyazaki, Japan. It was even recommended in the 2016 and 2017 Michelin Guide, so you know you’re in for an exquisite beef-centric treat.

Wa-En Yakiniku has finally made its first foray into international waters with an elegant yet minimalist space decked out in delicate Japanese wood tones, all while offering stunning views of the rain vortex. It also boasts cosy booth seats and private rooms, making for a more premium dining experience.

Unique to this outlet is the first-ever Wa-En Bar (the closest thing to an airport cocktail bar), which serves as the perfect place to unwind over craft cocktails, wine, sake, whisky and bar bites before catching your flight.

Start off with a cocktail, such as the eye-catching Miyazaki Wagyu Fat-Washed Old Fashioned (S$24), that’s garnished with an actual slice of aburi Mizayaki wagyu. It was silky with a pleasant citrus twang, but a tad too sweet for my liking.

Moving on to the stars of the show, you can take your pick from an extensive selection of top-quality yakiniku cuts (available as platters and individual a la carte servings), side dishes, and even wagyu sashimi.

Those who want to try a little bit of everything can go for the Wagyu Beef Platter (S$158), comprising seven different cuts from both Miyazaki and Australia:

• Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi
• Premium Miyazaki Wagyu Karubi – Original and Salt Sauce
• Premium Miyazaki Wagyu Chuck Roll
• Australian Wagyu – Salt or Miso Sauce
• Australian Wagyu in Grilling Sauce
• Premium Beef Tongue Stick

It’s also the most value-for-money option, given that a la carte options like the Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi (S$50) can cost a pretty penny.

But boy did this decadent, richly marbled cut of wagyu instantly melt in my mouth. It was, to put it simply, sublime.

Unlike most yakiniku restaurants that tend to offer a dizzying range of sauces, you only need yakiniku sauce, minced garlic, and a simple blend of salt and pepper here — it’s the best way to enjoy the unadulterated flavours of the meat.

Gyutan fans must, must try at least one of the beef tongue dishes, be it the Premium Australian Thick-cut Wagyu Beef Tongue (S$48) or the Thin-sliced Beef Tongue (S$40), which I thoroughly relished with the accompanying salt & scallion sauce and a squeeze of lemon.

If you’re getting all beefed out, other indulgent meats like the Premium Iberico Pork Jowl (S$22), which is served with your choice of salt or yuzu sauce, will more than suffice.

You can also supplement the meats with a selection of seafood like the plump and juicy Hiroshima Oyster (S$18 for 4pcs) — they take on a whole new flavour dimension when grilled.

And of course, it is a must to balance everything out with a serving of Assorted Vegetables & Mushrooms (S$12 for 2 pax), or even a refreshing salad.

But don’t worry about getting caught up in the meat-induced excitement and leaving the restaurant smelling all funky. Each specially imported yakiniku grill is equipped with a unique furnace structure that effectively funnels away all that smoke and grease.

The non-barbecued dishes at Wa En Yakiniku are also worth checking out, such as the Miyazaki Wagyu Beef Tartare (S$23), raw beef coated in a savoury and mildly sweet yangnyeom sauce, topped with a luscious Okinawa egg yolk.

As someone who loves balancing out all that beefy grease with a bowl of refreshing cold noodles whenever I go for yakiniku, the ponzu-based Morioka Cold Noodles (S$18) was absolutely delightful (in between bites of buttery wagyu).

Matcha-holics like me would undoubtedly go for the Snowy Matcha (S$10.60) that’s packed with whipped cream, matcha gelato, red bean paste, and crisp white chocolate. If you like the combination of sweet and umami, the Nutty Shoyu–Goma (S$11.40) features a unique caramel walnut soy sauce gelato that may be right up your alley.

And if you’re still racking your brains for a saccharine treat for your significant other, why not gift your partner the kawaii Ama-OH! ($13.90) on Valentine’s Day? It sure beats an overpriced bouquet of flowers.

There is also an option to customise your crepe from S$9.80. Pick between a plain or matcha crepe, choose a gelato flavour, sauce, fillings, and add on extra toppings if you want. The possibilities are endless, so go crazy.

The crepes are seasonal, so who knows when they’ll be taken off the menu? In fact, I’m already thinking about heading to Jewel for dessert as we speak.
