However, no fret! I’m not here to judge and even get y’all that aesthetic desserts are hard to resist.

One cafe in Singapore is particularly known for their good-looking desserts and that’s LUNA, which has pretty much become an institution along Amoy Street.

Well, they’ve branched out and opened a sister concept at 111 Somerset — Lucine by LUNA.

Here, you’ll not just get their iconic sweet treats but also an all-day menu with classic brunch offerings. And, yes, the menu is outlet-exclusive and everything costs under S$15 (excluding GST and service charges).

A highlight is the Tofu Katsu (S$10.90). Wait, hear me out! Despite being made from tofu, the katsu tastes like the real deal and delivers a satisfying crunch with its crispy panko crust.

Cheese lovers should opt for the Grilled Cheese (S$12.90), with your choice of sourdough or brioche mixed with a trio of mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan.

Want something lighter on the stomach? Go for the Lucine Scrambled Eggs (from S$8.90), which you can add Sauteed Garlic Mushrooms (S$3.90) or Creamed Spinach (S$3.90) on the side.

Of course, it’ll be criminal not to order LUNA’s desserts.

Even if you’re full, you need to do yourself a favour by getting their beloved signatures, such as Pistachio Roulade (S$8.80), Blossom ($8.50), and, needless to say, Orh Nee Cake (S$8.50).

The Pistachio Roulade features a dense pistachio chiffon cake stuffed with pistachio cream and topped with raspberry compote, whereas Blossom is a cute flower-shaped pastry filled with strawberry elderflower yoghurt mousse.

As for their Orh Nee Cake, it’s a beautiful creation with coconut chantilly cream and white chocolate pearls layered on top of the cake.

Lucine by LUNA’s selection of lattes shouldn’t be passed over too as they don’t lose out on the aesthetics department. Their Black Sesame Latte (S$8.50) has creamy black sesame sitting atop a freshly brewed nutty latte.

I’d also get the Peanut Butter Latte (S$8.50) to accompany my brunch fare.

As all these flavours and textures may get a little overwhelming, you’ll want to keep a glass of water handy to refresh your palate.

If you’re out and about in town, orchardgateaway is one of the best places to beat the heat. After all, it is home to some of China’s most popular drink and dessert concepts, such as There Was No Coffee, Yang Xiao Xian, and now, LEMOONTEA.

The futuristic-looking lemon tea joint is located right next to one of the exits coming down from Somerset MRT; you definitely won’t miss its vivid green and white interior.

As the name suggests, it specialises in “hand-whipped lemon tea”, which refers to a process that involves lemons and limes being “punched” and “beaten” together with “crunchy ice cubes”. Punched lemon tea, however, is not new to Singapore — you’ve probably seen it being sold at certain Food Republic food courts.

As someone who tends to gravitate towards citrus-based iced teas instead of the usual bubble tea whenever I’m feeling super thirsty, LEMOONTEA’s menu sounds really enticing.

Most drinks start with a simple base of lemon tea, and are then spruced up with seasonal fruits and herbs like Glutinous Rice Leaf (S$5.80), Coconut (S$6.50) and Mango (S$7.20). There is even a funky Durian Lemon Tea (S$7.90) — I’m not sure how I feel about it.

That aside, you can also find speciality drinks like Watermelon Mint Coconut (S$6.50) and an intriguing yet incredibly affordable Perfume Lemonade (S$1.60).

Otherwise, signatures like the Signature Lemon Green Tea (S$4.90), Strong Black Lemon Tea (S$4.90), and Guangdong Oolong Lemon Tea (S$5.80) will be your best bet.

Not only are you able to pick your preferred sugar level, but you’ll even get to choose whether you prefer regular or crushed ice!

So, why not cool down with a sour and refreshing cup of iced tea that also happens to be very IG-worthy? Maybe someone will even be brave enough to give the durian lemon tea a go.

Longtime fans of the popular cafe would know this by now, but Equate Coffee in Orchard Central is a seriously stunning new spot to get your caffeine fix in town.

The popular cafe, which first opened at Tanjong Pagar in March 2021, is best known for its sleek minimalist aesthetics, house blend coffee, and artisanal bakes.

In true Equate Coffee fashion, the aesthetics are off the charts.

The interior of this second outlet is strikingly different from that of the first; despite being nestled along of the busiest shopping stretches in Somerset, it stands out from the typical run-of-the-mill mall cafes.

Raw, exposed concrete is juxtaposed with natural, earthy elements, while two uprooted upside down trees serve as the centerpiece of the space, making for some seriously photo-worthy moments.

At the time of writing, the cafe is still in its soft launch phase, but you can look forward to an even more extensive selection of pastries prepared in-house and a hot food menu exclusive to Orchard Central.

The ordering process is simple — just scan the QR code on your table and wait for your food and coffee to be served.

Although you can find espresso-based options like the Black Coffee (S$5) and Mocha (S$5.50), or even Filter Coffee (S$14), we went for the White Coffee (S$5), which showcases Equate Coffee’s signature house blend consisting of beans from Brazil and Sumatra.

The cuppa was medium-bodied, with pleasant chocolatey and nutty notes, but I did find it a touch too acidic for my palate.

I definitely preferred the rich and bittersweet Chocolate (S$5), a dark, decadent chocolate lover’s dream come true.

Moving on to the food, Japanese-inspired sandos, with a choice of either Tonkatsu (S$15.80) or Spam Truffle Egg Mayo (S$13.80), are available from 11am onwards.

We went for the latter, comprising creamy truffle egg mayo (very aromatic) and thick slices of pork spam on toasted milk bread (shokupan), which made for a moreish, though slightly messy, meal.

You can also order sides like Shoestring Fries (S$7.80), Truffle Fries (S$11.80), and Onion Rings (S$8.80) with homemade sauces.

As for the pastries, we opted for the Hazelnut Chocolatine (S$7.80), a cube-shaped croissant filled with homemade chocolate hazelnut praline that tasted like a cross between a Kinder Bueno and Ferrero Rocher.

One random observation is that the plates used here are not the most user-friendly (the plate with the croissant kept spinning around as we attempted to cut the cube into pieces).

I can’t wait for the full menu to be launched, but till then, I’ll still pop by every now and then for a sando or two.

Located at Basement One of 313@Somerset, the Korean cafe is known for its beautiful floral decor, art jamming sessions, and Korean parfaits. The parfaits are titled Bonbons, a concoction of freshly whipped cream and fruits.

The newly launched High Tea Set will include these Korean, Japanese, and French-inspired sweets — all delivered to your table in a glorious setting.

The High Tea Set will feature seven sweets and savouries, guaranteed to satisfy your hunger.

The sweets include Korean mini fruit bonbons, assorted mochi bites, French macarons, and a slice of Mille Crepe, while the savoury items are a tender Katsudon Chicken Foccacia, torched scallops, and fusion western-Korean rice cakes. 

Each High Tea Set also comes with two beverages, where you can choose from assorted teas or coffee. We recommend going for the teas, though — it’s refillable.

You might want to spice up your weekend with an art jamming session too. Priced at S$50/pax, each session entitles all participants to 15% off the High Tea Set. That lowers the price to ~S$21.20 per person for the sweet treats.

For those who haven’t been to Nassim Hill Bakery’s original outlet at Tanglin, Killiney is a much much more convenient spot. And it essentially offers the same menu as the original.

Secondly, not the full range of bakes are available at this pop-up. But thankfully, you can grab some of their signature donuts here.

Boy, these babies are worth making a trip down. The decadent kaya and chocolate fillings perfectly complement the rich, fluffy brioche dough.

For starters, this isn’t a new outlet. Nassim Hill Bakery @ Killiney is just a brunch pop-up at the second floor of gastrobar KPO which just operates until 3pm.

For fans of al fresco dining, the café has an open rooftop area which is comfortably nestled amongst lush greens. You are provided a sweeping view of the surrounding park and main road — perfect for people spotting.

It can be best described as a scenic oasis hidden within the bustle of Orchard.

But if you’re with a date who can’t tolerate the Singaporean weather, Nassim Hill’s Killiney space has an airconditioned greenhouse-esque interior as a cosy alternative.

Sprawling windows and rustic wooden furnishing help create a charming, tranquil ambiance.

Asian-inspired menu

You can start off your meal with their Sourdough Basket (S$4), which is crazy worth it since it comes with Bordier Butter. It’s not a common sight to see such high quality artisan butter served with bread baskets.

But if you want to spice it up even more, get the Zesty Hummus Dip (S$12) or Taramasalata Dip (S$13). Pretty solid condiments if you want to add some textures and bold spiced flavours.

One of my favourite items off the brunch menu at Nassim Hill Bakery @ Killiney was the Potato Gnocchi (S$18).

A medley of creamed spinach sauce, mushrooms and chives combined for a potently fragrant profile, finished with a smoky crunch from Brussel sprouts.

If you like your pasta more with umami, go for the Chilli Crab Pasta (S$17/25). This is one of the crowd pleasers at Nassim Hill Bakery @ Killiney for sure.

Chili crab fans would enjoy the sauce’s delectable mix of tanginess and sweetness, with a kick of spice at the end.

Similarly, if you want something Italian-inspired you can get an entire Personal Truffle Pizza (S$14) to yourself. It sports a nice crunchy crust, touches of quail egg and a light truffle perfume. At just $14, it’s a great deal.

Alternatively, for something more “brunch-like”, the Cheddar Cheese Bacon Waffles (S$20) is the perfect hearty plate for you.

The umami bacon and rich cheddar in the waffles paired just paired so well with the chives sour cream.

Otherwise, Nassim Hill Bakery @ Killiney also has items on the menu for the more health conscious. For example, the zesty Thai Beef Salad (S$19) which really hits the spot with its bright citrus notes.

Finally, what’s a brunch without a good cuppa? Nassim Hill uses a full bodied espresso blend from Liberty Coffee for their brews.

You can find the classic orders like Americano (S$5), Flat White (S$6) and Cafe Mocha (S$7), with additional $1 for ice and oat milk substitutes.

Ultimately, the new Killiney branch is more accessible than Nassim Hill Bakery’s original location. Which is good news for those who’ve wanted to try their food — especially those crazy good brioche donuts.
