As someone who loves free performances, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is my regular hangout spot, but it’s also a place full of pricey food items, as per the typical tourist trap. To give you an idea, ordering a scoop of ice cream can amount to S$8 in certain stores.
Yet, I didn’t know that a place of value was right in front of my nose the whole time. All this while, I could have gotten an açaí bowl with unlimited toppings for the price of two ice cream scoops, and here’s where you can too.
Situated right next to the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre, a humble açaí stand, The Berry Spot, welcomes its customers with unlimited açaí toppings.

Their toppings include well-loved fresh fruits, thick buttery drizzles, crunchy cereal, palatable nuts, and even proteins like Coconut Chia Pudding. Order their Medium bowl (S$11.70) or larger, and you can pick all the toppings they offer—yes, from multiple drizzles to all your favourite fruits, everything!

I was honestly surprised at how generous they were in giving toppings, considering I had only ordered the Medium bowl. In addition, the açaí I ordered felt like a Large one compared to other places thanks to their cup capacity of 360ml. When analysing its portion, the Medium açaí was equivalent to a Starbucks’ Tall cup option, while the X-Large was like a Starbucks’ Venti.

For just S$17.90, you can order about 700ml worth of açaí and toppings—while it might be a splurge, the portion and quality make this a good bargain. However, if you are on a budget, the Small size is also available for S$7.90, but do note that this allows only a maximum of three toppings (which to me doesn’t seem as worth it).
For any employees of the Esplanade, staff can receive a 10% discount on The Berry Spot’s items. The Medium açaí would then amount to ~S$10.50 after employee perks. For those unfamiliar with prices around the Marina Bay area, two scoops of ice cream can easily cost S$12. Surely, you can imagine the joy I experienced when I received a 360ml cup’s worth of fresh fruits, sweet and icy açaí base, cacao nibs, and more, for under the price of two premium ice cream scoops.

Outside of their menu, I absolutely recommend visiting the store on weekend evenings to catch the golden hour by the river. As an introvert, visiting the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre with an açaí bowl in hand and basking in the warm sunlight has become my favourite solo date idea thus far.
If you’re ever looking for good value desserts or bites along the promenade, The Berry Spot definitely fulfils the criteria of a good deal.
