Looking for unique Chinese New Year-themed activities to soak in the festive atmosphere? You’re going to have a bunny-ful time at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall’s Wan Qing Festival of Spring 2023. With an exciting lineup of cultural workshops, free performances, and more, the festival is sure to get you in the Lunar New Year mood.
On Chinese New Year (22 January), visitors will be treated to an auspicious lion and dragon dance performance, as well as a visit from the God of Fortune giving away sweet treats. Admission to the museum’s galleries is also free (with guided tours offered on certain dates) as part of the festivities.
The museum is having its open house on 4 and 5 February 2023, with family-friendly activities like tang yuan workshops where you can make your own adorable tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) with the kids, lion dance and festive drum workshops, and many more.
There’s also an array of free activities, like craft workshops, activity kits and storytelling sessions that’ll keep the younger ones entertained.
Do note that some workshops will be conducted in Mandarin. Slots can be booked here.
Those who’ve yet enough of festive feasting can go on a heritage food trail of Balestier for just S$12, where you’ll learn more about the rich history of the neighbourhood and sample food from famous stalls like Lam Yeo Coffee Factory and Sweetlands Confectionery and Bakery.
Don’t forget to strike a pose and capture your CNY OOTDs at the Bunny-ful Blessings installation on the lawn of the Memorial Hall, which features adorable ginormous bunnies shaped like lucky daruma dolls. There will also be free red packets for visitors (double the luck!), so collect yours while stocks last.
