We’re going Out of Office once again, this time at Wooderful Life with the cutest music boxes and figurines

by Maeve M and Tai Wing Xin

Contrary to popular belief, the editorial team doesn’t just eat good food all the time. For this round of CG’s Out Of Office (OOO) series, we took a short walk over to Wooderful Life for a wood-erful time customising music boxes.

Who knew glueing little wooden cats to a rotating disc was so much fun?

Meeting: Working on Our Creative Sides

17 July 2025 / 3pm–6pm / Wooderful Life @ Funan

Attendees:

Editorial x Marketing (8 creatives eager to tinker rather than type

Agenda:

  • Determine if we’re all thumbs (or nails)
  • Scope out new workshops for CG readers
  • Create the cutest music boxes known to humankind

Notes:

3pm

Wing Xin: Nestled behind Amps Tea, Wooderful Life caught our attention with its cosy, open-concept space with warm lighting and charming wood art.

We were instantly drawn to the giant glass display, which was essentially a massive rotating music box. Its tiers are filled with charming scenes, from mini safaris to jolly Christmas villages, each one a tiny world set to music.

Each music box had its own unique natural grain and colour, made from premium wood sourced from forestry culture gardens. With over 40 classic tunes including Swan Lake, Für Elise, and La Paloma, we were spoiled for choice (which didn’t bode well for the overthinkers in our team).

Maeve: I picked Swan Lake because it’s been stuck in my head; I can actually hear it right now. Honestly, that was the only decision that I made with ease that afternoon. The real struggle was picking from the seemingly infinite line of tiny figurines.

Wing Xin: Unlike Maeve, my favourite part of the session was choosing charms for my music box. I didn’t have a particular theme in mind, but somehow ended up going full cottagecore with tiny flowers, a movable swing set, and the cutest wooden birds I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Once the charms and figurines were selected, it was time to get handsy. Over the next half hour, we carefully pieced everything together with tiny screws (and ample help from the staff, of course).

Maeve: Positioning those figurines took ages, especially because I kept knocking them over. I don’t know how anyone with long nails managed to finish their box. At one point, it took two people just to screw the components together.

Wing Xin: Everybody’s creations said something about them. Eunice’s calendar-slash-music-box? It’s a dreamy, lunar-inspired product that encapsulated her affinity for the moon and her new favourite word, ‘sonder’.

Wing Xin: It was also immediately clear who the lovebirds were — just look for the boxes with sickeningly adorable couples perched in front of fairytale scenes, frozen in eternal joy.

It was all smiles as we left Wooderful Life with our very own miniature dreamlands.

Key Findings:

  • Long nails make handiwork approximately 1000% harder
  • Choosing just one song for your music box is next-level impossible

Actionables:

  • Try not to break our music boxes on the way home (mission failed)
  • File our nails for future workshops
  • Look out for future OOO locations (send us your suggestions on Telegram)

Conclusion:

If you’re bored with the same few workshops teaching pottery, candle-making, or baking, turn to music box-making instead for hours of chatting and fun. Making a mini wooden masterpiece is more intimate and emotional than you’d expect.
