Fans of all things coffee, there’s a new café in town — specialty coffee roaster Allpress Espresso has opened an exclusive pop-up café and retail store for only six months at 73 Duxton Road.
Even if the name doesn’t ring a bell, you might have unknowingly tried their coffee before, since they actually supply coffee to over 50 popular cafés in Singapore like Plain Vanilla, Baker & Cook, and more.
Since they’re known for their coffee, I was definitely excited to try their curated selections. We started off with a hot latte (S$6), which was delightfully creamy — I’d recommend this if you prefer your coffee on the milder side.
For those who prefer to get their caffeine boost sans milk, check out their espresso (S$5), Allpress Iced Black Coffee (S$5.50) or filter single origin pour-overs (from S$8).
Of course, you can also get a large variety of sweet and savoury delights to go with your coffee. Don’t miss the indulgent Affogato Sundae (S$16), which comes with two scoops of ice cream, a canelé (U.P. S$4.50), and an espresso shot.
We opted for the Roasted Pistachio and Allpress Dulcey Latte (U.P. S$6/scoop) flavours — and we defo weren’t disappointed. While I would have preferred the pistachio to be a little more nutty, the dulcey latte ice cream was creamy and milky with hints of caramel and coffee. Plus, the bitter espresso perfectly balanced the sweetness of the ice cream. (Psst… there’s even a vegan ice cream flavour — the Cold Brew Sorbet!)
Got a craving for pastries? The brownie (S$6.50) was topped with toasted marshmallow (s’mores) and had an oh-so-fudgy centre without being overly sweet — the perfect accompaniment to their coffees.
The Coffee Basque Cheesecake (S$8) was creamy and dense (one of my favourite comfort foods, for sure) with a crumbly base. Definitely one of the better cheesecakes out there, but I would have liked a little more, well, coffee flavouring.
If you’re looking for something a little more savoury, the café also offers bagels (S$3.50). Add on some cream cheese for S$1 — think tomato basil, scallion, and more.
From 9 to 14 May 2023, they’ll be running a 1-for-1 promotion on all espresso-based coffees — that means you’ll be able to get a coffee from just S$2.50. How insane is that? Although the pop-up is only slated to last for six months until end October, keep an eye out for announcements about future pop-ups (and maybe even a permanent café).
The next time you need a quick coffee fix, you know where to go!
