The team behind Southern California aims to bring the full SoCal experience to all customers by finding the perfect balance between creativity and simplicity. As you step into the restaurant, you will find yourself surrounded by whimsical and classy decor like leather booths and even a warm fireplace. Perfect for a romantic date night.
Authentic SoCal Italian food
We have no qualms about the interior design of the restaurant, but let’s not forget the real star of the show. California Republic serves a myriad of authentic SoCal Italian food. Many of the dishes are inspired by the founder’s own favourite haunts back in Southern California like their Grilled Oysters (S$22) served with aromatic and tangy chipotle bourbon butter. The seafood and raw bar menu also carries many SoCal favourites like baked stuffed clams, seafood towers and more.
Many of California Republic’s menu items also aim to serve as a warm hug for the soul, like their Lazy Man’s Cioppino (S$48). This is a hearty tomato-based stew brimming with succulent ingredients like roasted sea bass, clams, mussels and calamari.
Flavourful SoCal Italian handmade pasta
If your comfort food is pasta, then you’re in for a treat. The pastas at California Republic are made from scratch in-house, boasting a perfectly al dente texture. You can choose from a few pasta options that are harder to find in Singapore like the Celery Root Cappellacci (S$29). Cappellacci is essentially a dumpling made from pasta.
Cocktails for everyone
Alcohol might not be for everyone, that’s why California Republic chooses to cater to all with their colourful cocktail menu. From zero alcohol options like June Gloom (S$16) to potent options like Walkin’ On Sunshine (S$26) and everything in between, there are plenty of refreshing choices to choose from.
I may not have been to Southern California yet, but I’m confident a visit to California Republic at Amoy Street will make sure that I’m not missing out on any of the delicious SoCal Italian fare.
