Immerse yourself in the Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean from 9 October to 9 November 2026. The display will feature more than 5,000 bright yellow sunflowers across 20 varieties, including supersized varieties that can grow up to 1.8m tall like the man of your dreams!

Walk through the historic streets of Lisbon and admire the traditional cultural heritage of Portugal, with its colourful tilework all around the Flower Dome. There’s also a recreation of the Belém Lighthouse and landscapes of the Portuguese countryside. 

Sunflower Activities 

If floral scents are your thing, head over to the Australian Garden located within the Flower Dome and discover the art of perfumery for S$15, only on 10 and 11 October, from 10am to 6pm. You create your very own 5ml perfume roll-on using sunflower seed oil and other scents to craft a fragrance that’s uniquely yours! 

You can also get to craft and paint your own sunflower decorative tray, with 2 plaster sunflowers provided. Slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis for S$15, only on 17 October, from 11am to 5pm. 

Do note that admission into the Flower Dome is required and must be purchased separately from this activity.

Fico, a casual Italian restaurant, is taking things up a notch this F1 season at Tanjong Beach Club, bringing race week to the sand with a specially curated menu, Circuit Soleil, from 8 to 11 October. We put the “grand” in Grand Prix (and in flavour); here are some dishes that will rev up your appetite! 

From the paddock to your plate, we started with their Tuna Tartare (S$26), a brilliant summertime appetiser made with fresh tuna, sun-dried tomatoes, trout roe, and a refreshing dressing. If raw isn’t calling your name, the Fritto Misto (S$30) offers a mix of cooked seafood, with Calamari, Prawns, and Snapper. 

Shift gears and try something new: the Barbecued Cauliflower (S$26) that’s also vegetarian-friendly. This was one of our favourite sides, packed with umami flavours and dressed up with saffron aioli and hazelnuts. It was truly unforgettable that I almost had the whole plate to myself. 

Talk about podium-worthy: their signature Charcoal-grilled Octopus (S$38) was smoked to perfection, with no brakes on the flavour. Each bite had a nice char, and the best part of the Octopus was the ends, so good that even Kimi Antonelli would agree that it’s delizioso. 

Put the pedal to the metal (fork) and dig into the main event, the Paccheri (S$42). An impressive seafood wonderland coated in a rich tomato-based sauce that will warm your belly up. Another championship-worthy pasta is the elegant Pappardelle (S$32), with ragu of beef, pork, and lamb. These plates are great for sharing among 2 to 3 pax.

The finish line never tasted so good with Fico’s Tiramisu (S$18). Don’t feel obligated to share this one because it is creamy, rich, and best enjoyed solo.

Starting strong with their tossed Caesar Salad with crunchy romaine lettuce, grilled chicken breast, and tangy dressing. The Cotoletta di pollo is a juicy, flavourful baked chicken thigh cutlet with melted cheese. Even though the chicken skin wasn’t as crispy, it still tasted so good; we protein-maxed out and had 3 servings for ourselves! 

Moving on to the pastas, the Ravioli Ai Porcini is stuffed with earthy mushrooms and lathered in a delicate, creamy truffle sauce and basil oil. We won’t judge if you went for second servings, third, or even a fourth serving, because this was our personal favourite dish! Best eaten when served piping hot. 

Mezze Maniche e Mulignana is vegetarian-friendly, a tomato-based pasta with aubergines, ricotta, and basil. This is definitely on the lighter side compared to the Ravioli Ai Porcini, almost like a comforting summer pasta. 

Think aglio e olio, but reimagined into a pizza. The Aglio e Olio Pizza Cartwheel definitely nailed down the flavour of garlic-forward, thin-crusted pizzas! Made with simple ingredients, the freshness really shone through with a mellow, aromatic fragrance and a nice char on the crust – leaving no crust behind. We also tried the Pesto Basilico, an iconic Italian flavour with pine nuts and basil pesto that shares a similar crust to Aglio e Olio Pizza.

For something meatier, Diavola alla Nonno Enzo is the pizzeria’s signature contemporary pizza, served with spicy Napoli salami and a rich tomato base. The crust is light and airy with a puffy edge that isn’t too thick. 

Dolci O’clock calls for Cioccolato and Pistachio gelato. Prefer something rich and intense? Opt for the chocolate flavour that is sweet enough to make your dentist nervous. If moderation and “not too sweet” is your thing, go for the nutty Pistachio instead.

The TC Sonic (S$16) pairs CHOYA with soda and tonic, with fresh ume for a nice tartness. The CHOYA Martini (S$20) is more playful, replacing the traditional olive with ko-ume, a sharply tangy flavour with a fragrant aroma. 

If you prefer a sweeter concoction, the C4D is a CHOYA Cookie Cheese Cake Drink (S$28). Definitely a dessert-in-a-cocktail to indulge in, paired with B&W Cheesewich – curated food-and-drink pairings available at the bar. The Golden Rod (S$28) also comes in a non-alcoholic version; otherwise, it’s perfect if you’re looking for something stronger yet refreshing, paired with Hamachi Tropical Ceviche. 

Ume on the Plate

Each ume-inspired dish brings something different to the table – the Grilled Pork Jowl (S$12) delivers salty depth with its ume yakiniku glaze, while the Grilled Chicken Skewers (S$28) shine with a glossy ume sherry glaze. For a contemporary spin, their 4-Cheese Lasagna is layered with earthy slices of zucchini and nasu (eggplant) that will soak up the goodness of ume béchamel and tomato ragout.

What I got was one of the tastiest plates of nasi lemak I’ve had in recent memory, and one of the most expensive. I mean, when you first see an S$18 price tag on a familiar coconut rice dish, you might get taken aback like me too.

But did I enjoy the nasi lemak? I definitely did. 

That is why, when we had the chance to visit Wild Coco’s latest flagship restaurant at Jewel Changi Airport, I was curious. I wanted to see whether the food is still worth it and if anything’s new. Keep reading to find out what we enjoyed, and see for yourself if the food justifies the price!

Premium versions of local favourites

If you’ve ever been to any of Wild Coco’s outlets, you’ll find what’s popular still here at Jewel. This includes their Premium Laksa (S$17.90), Ayam Berempah Leg (S$12.90), and Chao Ta Chee Cheong Fun (S$16.90). 

One of my personal highlights has to be the Premium Laksa. The rich, creamy broth was umami goodness at its best. Top that off with a generous serving of tau pok, fish cakes, and noodles absorbing all that savoury gravy, and you get pure bliss.

For someone weak at spice, the Premium Laksa wasn’t spicy for me, but that’s also because I didn’t add in the sambal chilli provided. If you prefer more spice, feel free to mix that in.

Jewel-exclusive dishes

Of course, we can’t talk about Wild Coco without mentioning their variety of signature nasi lemak dishes. There are actually more than 10 options to choose from, including the Jewel-exclusive Ayam Bakar Nasi Lemak (S$20.90).

If you’re wondering – yes, the nasi lemak still hits. I tried the outlet exclusive and was once again reminded of what has always stood out to me at Wild Coco – the fragrant coconut rice. Honestly, if you just served me a bowl of it, I’d be happy to eat it on its own.

Combine that with the charcoal-grilled chicken leg that has a sweet, crispy exterior and the sunny-side-up egg with a runny yolk, and you get a dish that kinda earns its “premium” status and price. But of course, that is entirely subjective and up to personal taste.

Other Jewel-exclusive dishes include starters such as Kueh Pie Tee (S$18.90) and Squid Bloom (S$21.90). Those familiar with Peranakan cuisine would recognise the first and its crispy rice puffs. What makes it special here is that it’s served with fresh prawns.

I personally enjoyed the second a lot more than I expected. It is exactly what its name sounds like – a bunch of squid presented like a flower bloom. These barbecued pieces of squid were so tender and easy to enjoy. If you hate rubbery, tough squid, you will not find that here.

One more outlet exclusive I have to mention is the CoCo J (S$12.90) drink. It’s more than just an aesthetic-looking beverage; it actually tastes really good. On the outside, you’ll see a blue-and-white drink with an orchid on top. But what you’re really getting is a coconut shake topped with light sky-blue yoghurt and coconut cubes.

The mixture of slightly sour yoghurt, sweet coconut shake, and small chewy cubes creates a balanced blend of flavours that is sweet enough, but not too much. For those of you who prefer maximum sweetness, perhaps the Gula Melaka Coconut Shake (S$11.90) would suit your taste better.

Beyond the food, another reason that makes visiting Wild Coco at Jewel a compelling choice is its setting. Stepping into the restaurant feels like entering a lush, Singapore-inspired tropical environment – without the heat.

At the same time, you can get a clear view of the Jewel Rain Vortex, which provides a beautiful backdrop for your dining experience. For occasions that call for a special meal or a nature-inspired gathering, this is a spot to consider.

New Menu Items 

Kick-start your palate with the Cirash Salad (S$18), with diced sashimi, cherry tomatoes and fish roe, bringing together a bright, robust appetiser. The Maguro Yamakake Tartare (S$18) is perfect for seafood lovers, with marinated tuna tartare. 

USHIO’s cocktails are no stranger to Japanese culture, from Sake Highball (S$20) to The Chain (S$24) for something sweet and sour, to the Bad Moon Rising (S$24), with sake, Cointreau, and lime cordial. These would pair well with the Unagi Manju (S$16), which sits inside a deep-fried bun, great for indulging; the Crispy Mapo Tofu Bites (S$12), delivering an intense contrast of textures and a complex, fiery flavour profile; and the King Crab Tempura (S$20), which can never go wrong with the crowd.

If seafood isn’t for you, go for the Grilled Teriyaki Kurobuta Pork (S$26), paired with vegetables and salsa for a great balance, or if you’re feeling atas, the Yaki Beef Short Rib (S$70) is ideal for sharing. 

Sips for Sharing

USHIO’s new lineup focuses on Japanese sake and cocktails designed for conversations that stretch and friendly drinking with good company. Their premium batching cocktails at S$85 are made to be shared with unique names, from the Moment of Truth to Paid in Full and Bourbons & Lacs. 

Ushio Sumiyaki & Sake Bar is the perfect spot for after-work decompression and sake-led evenings. Whether you’re here to catch up with your friends or enjoy a romantic evening, there’s something for everyone.

So, together with a colleague, we recently dropped by Chin Mee Chin at NEX, its new and only establishment outside its original outlet at Katong. And here are my thoughts after trying it for the first time.

Located near Exit E of Serangoon MRT Station, Chin Mee Chin is one of the first establishments visitors to NEX will see. The interiors carry a sense of nostalgia, with walls and floor tiles reminiscent of classic kopitiams.

The perk of having a buddy with you is being able to try a range of items on the menu and not feel like you over-ordered. We went for the Kaya Toast (S$6.50 with a set), Choux au Craquelin (S$3), Ham & Cheese Danish (S$3.60), and Smashed Fried Chicken with Sambal Sandwich (S$8.80).

The highlight for me was definitely the Smashed Fried Chicken with Sambal Sandwich. This surprised me as I was expecting a classic like Kaya Toast to stand out, especially since it’s been on the menu for years and has had time to be perfected.

Instead, what left me wanting more was this modern creation that looks like it could come from any of your favourite fast food restaurants. The chicken had a crunchy exterior and a juicy, tender interior, while also being seasoned nicely all the way through.

Combined with a savoury sauce, tomatoes and lettuce, every bite was a flavourful delight. However, despite the “sambal” name, this burger was nowhere near being spicy. It’s perfect for someone like me who can’t take spice, but for those looking for a kick, you might not find the heat you want.

Another item that pleasantly surprised me was the Choux au Craquelin. We tried both the Dark Chocolate and Kaya Custard flavours. The best way I can describe it is that it’s the sum of the best parts of a polo bun and a cream puff.

The outside is crispy, while the inside is soft and filled with sweet, delicious cream. I definitely preferred the Dark Chocolate, with its cold, rich, smooth ganache-like filling. For those looking for a sweet surprise that is not too overwhelming, this is for you.

Chin Mee Chin at NEX is certainly a welcome addition to the mall, though I would love to check out the original Katong outlet someday too. If you live near Serangoon and want to find a cosy corner for breakfast, a tea break, or a meal at any point of the day, consider visiting Chin Mee Chin!
