Creamier East Coast is now serving Japanese-style tempura fish & chips, chicken on waffles, Kyoho grape soda float & more

It’s not uncommon to see crowds flocking to Creamier’s pet-friendly Katong outlet along East Coast Road for their ice cream fix, especially on weekends.

Now, you’ll not only be able to tuck into their iconic ice cream and waffles, but also hot food in the form of Japanese-inspired fish and chips by Frying Fish Club.

This limited-time Creamier x Frying Fish Club collaboration, a first for the cult-favourite ice cream chain, has birthed two specials.

Fans of the hearty chicken-and-waffles combo can head straight for the Fried Chicken & Creamier Golden Waffles (S$22.50), served with nori flakes and a sweet radish mayonnaise.

But for something a little less indulgent (as I’d like to believe) why not try the Fried Fish & Creamier Golden Waffles (S$23.50)? Think crispy and airy tempura battered shiro maguro (white tuna) with tomato slices, cucumber, and mesclun salad, drizzled with a sweet chilli yuzu sauce we wanted more of.

Although I’d go for chicken over fish any day, this was not only unique, but also didn’t leave me with that unpleasant “greasy feeling” I typically get after eating American-style fried chicken, with or without waffles.

Otherwise, go for Frying Fish Club’s signature Fish & Chips, which come in three variations: Signature (S$18.50), Nori (S$19.50), and Spicy (S$19.50).

The crowd favourite Nori sees shiro maguro that has been marinated in kombu, and encrusted in an umami seaweed batter, served alongside (very good) fries, tartar sauce, and an Asian slaw.

Save some room for Japanese-inspired sides like Furikake Fries (S$8) and spiced Fried Cauliflower (S$8), the latter of which comprised large, almost “meaty” cauliflower florets paired with an addictive mayo dip.

However, both my dining partner and I were most surprised by the Calamari (S$12), which was crispy, tender, and fresh-tasting, without being the slightest bit rubbery.

What’s fried food without alcohol? Take your pick from a selection of Japanese highball cocktails and craft beer on tap, like the refreshing vodka-based Tokyo Mule (S$14) with yuzu and ginger ale, or the tart and tangy Bored & Boozy Salted Plum (S$14).

If you’re not in the mood to imbibe, look no further than the IG-worthy, not-too-sweet Japanese Soda Floats (S$9.50), which come in flavours like Kyoho Grape and Strawberry, topped with a scoop of Creamier’s vanilla ice cream.

Obviously, you’ve got to save some room for ice cream — seasonal flavours for the month of June include the likes of sweet-salty Buttery Caramel Popcorn, Blueberry Yogurt, and an old favourite, Richest Dark Chocolate Ferrero.

I guess it’s time to visit Creamier not just for dessert, but also dinner?
