Be transported back to the 1960s at Exit Stage Left, an immersive speakeasy bar hidden away in Jalan Besar

I seriously cannot get enough of themed bars in Singapore, especially on days when I’m seeking a bit of respite from the real world.

If you’d like to be whisked away to a bygone era for a bit, Exit Stage Left, an immersive speakeasy tucked away in Jalan Besar, will do just that.

This 1960s-inspired bar is designed as the (optional) final stop of theatrical tour New World’s End, but you don’t have to be a tour participant in order to visit.

It’s so hidden that the entrance is located in a back alley along Desker Road, but step right in and you’ll be greeted with a cosy space decked out with crimson walls, checkerboard floors, and IG-worthy vintage furnishings.

Think leather bar seats, dimly lit lamps, and even a massive handpainted “mask” in the corner looking down at you — gritty and glamorous. Oh, and be sure to check out the washroom.

It’s also the first bar in Singapore to exclusively offer drinks crafted with locally distilled spirits and locally grown botanicals. As such, you can look forward to “hyper-local” cocktails showcasing the likes of floral gin from Brass Lion and pineapple-infused vodka from Singapore Distillery.

The bar puts a spin on the classic Jungle Bird with the bold yet bittersweet The Songbird (S$24), comprising pineapple, housemade mango wine, spices, Campari, and dark rum from Compendium Spirits.

If you enjoy bright, floral flavours, go for the way-too-drinkable Fong Fong’s Revue (S$22) featuring Brass Lion Pearl Jasmine gin, nectarine saccharum, oolong tea, jasmine flowers, and lime.

There’s even a zero-sugar option, the gimlet-inspired Haw House Sour (S$22) infused with hawthorne berries, preserved orange peel, and interestingly enough, nutmeg pericarp (a part of the nutmeg fruit).

Feel free to nibble on free-flow Kachang Puteh for just S$6, as compared to S$4 for a cone.
