I know what you must be thinking. Another Korean restaurant again? Yes, but please hear me out, okay?

GAMTAN is a new restaurant located in Telok Ayer and they serve authentic Korean cuisine. But here’s the catch, they specialise in sotbap dishes like Eel Sotbap (S$28.80), Pork Sotbap (S$26.80), Domi Sotbap (S$32.80) and more.

If you’re not well-versed in Korean food, this is often referred to as Korean claypot rice. A direct translation for it would be ‘pot-rice’. Sotbap is a traditional dish that consists of rice and various toppings that is cooked in a stone or earthenware pot.

The Koreans take it a step further to properly enjoy this dish to the fullest. There are just a few simple actions you would need to do.

First, you scoop the sotbap and sauce into a separate bowl and mix well. You can proceed to finish this bowl first or continue on. Next, add the tea to the pot of rice and cover it for a couple of minutes to let the flavour truly sink in. This is how to make nurungji, a meal made out of scorched rice left on the bottom of the pot.

I would also recommend eating it with seaweed to get that extra crunch.

Their Steak Sotbap (S$34.80) looks especially appealing to me. As a huge meat lover, this just ticks off all the boxes in my checklist. The Steak Sotbap comes with butter rice, soft steak cubes, and of course banchan (also known as Korean side dishes).

If meat doesn’t tickle your fancy, you should check out their Mushroom Sotbap (S$23.80) instead. It is topped with a generous amount of mushroom with rice, alongside banchan as well.

GAMTAN is currently having their soft opening offering 20% off total bill and with each purchase, there will be a complimentary gamjajun (also known as truffle potato pancake) and yuringi (also known as pepper-fried chicken) until 10 November 2024.

Do note that this offer is only exclusive to their social media followers (so wink wink, that’s a sign to press that follow button).

This article will be updated with more information in time to come.
