Long queues? Sold out? These are the two phrases foodies are all-too-familiar with, but there’s no stopping them when it comes to hunting down popular bakeries like Butter Town.

Butter Town is a bakery located within Holland Drive Market and Food Centre that typically sells out within hours of opening, with long queues gunning for their affordable and unique shio pan and curry.

Their shio pans are known for having a soft, fluffy inside with a crispy crust that crackles satisfyingly when you break them open. With their bread being made of premium Japanese bread flour and butter, it is really a steal when you can get their Original Sea Salt Shio Pan at only S$1.90.

What usually gets swept off the shelves first is their Au Chocolat Shio Pan (S$2.40), which boasts a smooth filling of 44% Belgian chocolate that perfectly complements the light, salted bread.

The umami combination of shiitake mushrooms sauteed in premium french butter and caramelised onions in the Mushroom Shio Pan (S$2.40) has also made it one of the bestsellers.

Every inch of the Mentaiko Onion Shio Pan (S$3) is filled with smooth and flavourful mentaiko mayo and fragrant onion, which is no wonder how it has become the hot-selling favourite since its release in June 2023.

Butter Town also offers other shio pan flavours like Everything Sesame, Maple Bacon, Garlic, Onion, and more. They rotate their flavours daily, so you can try out a new one each day!

Their sourdough cakes are not to be missed as well, most notably the Banana Sourdough Cake (S$4) which is prepared using sourdough starter incorporated with apples, giving it an increased depth of flavour.

You might be surprised to find a bakery selling curry lunch sets, but it is surprisingly popular amongst patrons. The Chicken Curry with Mandough Set (S$7.50) features their special deep-fried mini sourdough mantou (and thus is aptly named ‘mandough’) and homemade Nyonya curry with plenty of chicken, carrot and potatoes.

Although the mandoughs are meant to be soaked in curry, many have shared their experiences online of pairing it with chocolate fondue, soya milk or even bak kut teh. Give it a try and let those creative juices flow!

Butter Town also offers a super value set of Chicken Curry with Rice at only S$4.50, but if you’re more into their signature shio pans, you can get their Chicken Curry with Shio Pan at S$6.50 instead.

Once again, you have to visit the bakery early since they sell out within a few hours of opening, but it’s definitely worth it.

Hurry down to the bakery for your fix of fluffy shio pans before they all get snapped up!
