Ever wanted to give in to your intrusive thoughts and eat your household products?
Well, you can now have your kitchen sponge & eat it too at KANTIN, a Borneo-inspired restaurant in Jewel Changi Airport.
Launched as an April Fool’s special, this dirty kitchen sponge complete with “dishwashing liquid” is priced at S$18, and it really, really looks like the real thing.
The “sponge”, a lemon butter cake with English orange marmalade, is paired with “soap freshly squeezed from the last customer(‘s dishes)” AKA an airy light lemon foam, and drizzled with a green pandan lime syrup.
You’ll definitely want to snap lots of photos, so why not complete the look with a pair of yellow rubber gloves?
Unlike most novelty desserts which tend to look better than they taste, this is the complete opposite of a forbidden snack.
As a fan of citrus-based desserts, I loved how the cake was buttery and moist with a slight tang from the marmalade and lemon. Most importantly, it wasn’t cloyingly sweet, although that depends on how much “dishwashing liquid” you add.
All things considered, this is one dessert that’ll not just clean your plate, but also your palate!
The sponge cake will only be available at KANTIN from now till 30 April 2024, so there’s still time to prank your friends and family.
While you’re there, don’t forget to try out some of their savoury signatures, such as the Headhunter Pansuh Set (S$32), comprising chicken cooked in bamboo tubes, as well as the tropical-inspired Salmon Island (S$28) and Jungle Pasta (S$23).
Ready to soak up some suds and indulge in a sweet treat at the same time?
