4 signs you’ve seriously neglected your scalp & how you can tackle it with just S$40

by Christabel Tan

You may be a know-it-all when it comes to haircare — there are plenty of serums, masks and products on the market catered towards achieving lustrous locks — but the scalp? Hmm.

Most of us tend to focus on our hair, all while severely neglecting our scalp. I hate to break it to you, but it’s impossible to have a healthy head of hair without proper scalp care, which is as important as skincare.

After all, the scalp, as an extension of your face, is no less susceptible to dryness, irritation, and inflammation. Fortunately, these issues are really common and easy to identify, so here are the four main signs that your scalp is in need of some serious TLC, and how to tackle them.

1. You keep losing hair

Losing hair is natural and occurs for most people over time, especially with age. However, if you’re always finding excessive hair on your pillow, shower floor or comb (after brushing) — rapid and constant hair loss — you most likely have an unhealthy scalp.

Of course, hair loss can also be attributed to one’s family history, diet, and stress levels, but it doesn’t hurt to consult a professional, which I will go into more detail about.

2. You have a lot of dandruff

Ah, one of the most common skin conditions out there — dandruff. Characterised by white, oily flakes and itchiness, dandruff is typically caused by the buildup of oil, debris, dead skin, and various products.

Dandruff also tends to accumulate on one’s hair and shoulders, which can be extra embarrassing if you’re wearing dark-coloured clothing. Definitely not a good look if you’ve got an important upcoming interview, meeting, or even a date!

Fortunately, dandruff can be treated, and you’ll find out how in a bit.

3. Your scalp is always itchy

Not only is an itchy scalp extremely frustrating to deal with, but it also gets worse the more you scratch.

A good rule of thumb is to seek help if your scalp has been itching for more than three months — even if you’ve been exfoliating and using the right shampoo. It’s always better to seek a second opinion when in doubt, so that the experts can point you to the right solution.

4. Your scalp is red and irritated

Lastly, redness and irritation can stem from different factors, ranging from an allergic reaction or irritation from using a certain product; excessive heat; or even a sunburn, to more serious underlying conditions.

Surprise, surprise — this can also lead to the dreaded hair loss and/or thinning. If you can relate to one or more of these signs, it’s high time you sought help from a scalp professional, also known as a Trichologist, to finally address these issues.

So, in line with the festive season and the spirit of giving, I decided to treat my colleague, Putri, who’d been dealing with dandruff, an itchy scalp, and most recently, escalating to hair loss, for months, to a proper scalp treatment at TK TrichoKare

It’s super easy to make an appointment, which can be done so here or by sending this exclusive promo code <CGFestive> to 91508891 via Whatsapp. No calls needed!

They’re not regarded as one of Singapore’s most trusted hair and scalp centres for nothing  — some of my friends and co-workers can also vouch for that, as well as the good ratings and heartwarming testimonials from individuals who have ever visited TrichoKare, which further attests to their spectacular service.

And the swell thing is, every treatment starts with a comprehensive hair and scalp analysis.

After filling in a detailed questionnaire, Putri got her scalp scanned using their trusty Tricho-scan, which magnifies the scalp by up to a whopping 200 times, and the results were pretty nasty.

She was told (and could see) that her scalp was red and irritated, and plagued by dandruff and clogged pores caused by a buildup of serum — probably because she’d been using the wrong type of shampoo — the signs of a very unhealthy scalp.

Afterwards, a detailed treatment plan was drafted, which started off with a Premium European Herbal Scalp Masque that helps to regulate grease, rebalance a stressed scalp, and leave hair feeling soft and smooth.

Of course, it certainly helped that it smelled rather festive — like fragrant orange and mint. In truth, it has a whole lot of European herbal remedies that are specially concocted to work its magic on the scalp and hair follicles.

This was followed by an aromatherapy head massage, which was so relaxing that it made Putri’s “stress levels drop to zero” (a direct quote from her). In fact, the multiple head (and shoulder!) massages that followed in between steps were her personal highlight of the treatment.

Not only are they relaxing, but head massages allow for better absorption of the nutrients from the masque into the scalp, which can take up to 30 minutes. In the meantime, be sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of Rose tea.

After getting her hair rinsed with the TrichoKare Revitalising Hair Bath, Putri underwent the OxyJet treatment, which is highly recommended for those with sensitive scalps and thinning hair problems.

Putri, who has a low tolerance for pain, was a little nervous about the step, but the entire process was painless and over in about five minutes.

The ScalpBoost Ampoule is applied effectively through the OxyJet, which helps to stimulate hair growth and reduce inflammation of the scalp. It also serves as a strong barrier against environmental elements such as humidity, smoke, and pollution.

Last but not least, Photodynamic Therapy, which involves donning on a futuristic-looking helmet, uses laser light infrared technology to repair damaged hair, nourish the hair follicles, and stimulate hair growth — everything Putri (and her scalp) needed.

Finally, it was time to see the results using a post-treatment scalp scan, and boy was the difference night and day!

Upon looking at the magnified scans, Putri’s scalp looked so, so fresh and clean. It had been  thoroughly cleansed and rejuvenated after the entire treatment, and most importantly, she felt great.

The whole session, which lasted two and half hours, was top-notch and most importantly, she realised that all her scalp issues could be resolved at the hands of the experts at TrichoKare. She also picked up a sweet deal this month with the free gifts that come with every first treatment session.

If you too would like to address your scalp conditions, as mentioned above, this Scalp Purifying Therapy treatment is going for just S$40, exclusively for ConfirmGood followers from now till January 2024. What better time to have great hair just before the festive season?
