Anyone with the slightest bit of interest in Korean food and culture would’ve probably heard of Market Blue in Tanglin Mall by now.
Aside from being a retail and food hall, it has branched out into selling “robot” fried chicken and Korean twisted donuts (with a second outlet in Great World) along with the occasional weekend market pop-up.
Bread enthusiasts are in luck, as Market Blue will be hosting a highly-anticipated Korean Bakery Pop-Up in late August.
Having spent much of my travels in Seoul going absolutely nuts around the jaw-dropping variety of fresh bakes and pastries I often came across, this is one pop-up I cannot wait for!
It will be held for just six days, from 24 to 29 August 2023, at Tanglin Mall’s B1 Atrium, and feature an impressive line-up of over 55 different Korean-style breads by two famous bakeries from Daegu, Korea.
Suhyeongdang is best known for their Daegu Apple Bread, which is filled with thick cream cheese and a sweet and sour apple jam. Not only do they look like actual apples; the cartons they are packed in also resemble the real deal.
You can also look out for adorable buns shaped like carrots, sweet potato, and even garlic, with fillings like black sesame, mochi, and cream cheese. Boy do the Koreans love their cream cheese!
Daeggubang, or Geundae Golmok Danpatppang, specialises in whipped cream-filled buns in flavours like strawberry and green tea layered with a generous amount of sweet red bean.
Details on specific bakes that’ll be available during the pop-up to have yet to be released, but we’re pretty sure there’ll be plenty of unique sweet and savoury confections to choose from.
So mark your calendars, and head on down to Market Blue before everything sells out!
