Whether it’s mala with hotpot, stir-fry (xiang guo), skewers, or grilled fish, one can’t deny that this popular Sichuan Chinese ingredient continues to set the hearts of Singaporeans on fire.
If you’ve got a burning desire to satisfy your cravings for the spicy, numbing treat, hit up Ma La Power, an eatery in Bukit Panjang Plaza that claims to be home to the first mala hotplate in Singapore.
Order the signature Ma La Hotplate — mala xiang guo served on a sizzling hotplate — and you’ll get to choose from a variety of over 80 ingredients like meat, seafood, vegetables, and steamboat staples. This includes the likes of unique items like marinated steak, octopus, tteokbokki, lontong tempeh, and more.
Do note that there is a minimum order of 300g, so come hungry!
Afterwards, opt for your “spice power”, ranging from mild to hot — there’s even a non-spicy Fragrant Garlic option for those who can’t take the heat.
Lastly, feel free to add on your choice of carbs, either good ol’ rice (S$1.20) or chewy udon (S$3.20).
Otherwise, order the Stir Fry Chicken Hotplate (S$18.90), which can easily feed two to three diners, comprising chicken stir-fried with garlic, ginger and the eatery’s signature sauce. Choose between mala or soy, with add-ons like Baby Corn (S$1.80), Shiitake Mushroom (S$1.80), and Fried Tau Kwa (S$2.80), and you’re all set for a hearty meal.
All ingredients used at Ma La Power are halal-certified but we hear that they are in the process of undergoing halal certification.
