What lies beneath the gritty underbelly of a modern city?
OH! Open House, best known for their curated art walks around Singapore, seeks to divulge the secrets of the Jalan Besar neighbourhood through theatre and storytelling.
Having been exposed to my fair share of theatre in both the mainstream and fringe scene, I do enjoy productions that incorporate different mediums, be it audience interaction or multi-sensory elements. OH! Stories: New World’s End is a new permanent theatrical installation that marries the two. It’s like a heritage trail, but a million times better.
Set in the 60s at New World Amusement Park, New World’s End tells a tale of romance, history, and tragedy. Embrace the power of nostalgia as you explore a neighbourhood steeped in culture, desire, and disaster through the eyes of two ill-fated lovers.
Unlike traditional productions, there will be no stage or auditorium with assigned seating. In fact, you’ll be up on your feet the entire time. Well, almost.
This immersive audio-guided experience will take you on a night walk through hidden back-alleys and intimate fantasy spaces. As you tour the Cabaret and step into an apartment lost in time, you’ll get to see Jalan Besar in a whole new light.
You don’t have to be a history buff or a theatre geek to sign up for this one-of-a-kind experience. Bring anyone along — your best bud, your partner, or your family member. In fact, why not take yourself on a trip back in time?
Sessions take place every half hour from 5.30pm to 9.30pm from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
Regular tickets are priced at S$35 each, but we highly recommend going for the Adult + Entry Ticket to Bar option, which rounds off the experience with a visit to hidden speakeasy bar Exit Stage Left. There are also special packages offering discounted rates for groups, birthday celebrations, and students.
Why wait? It’ll definitely be an evening to remember.
Tickets can be booked here.
