How can one say no to a good CBD lunch set that doesn’t break the bank, especially when it involves good ol’ wagyu?
Be it a business meeting or leisurely meal with friends, you can now say no more to lacklustre lunches with YEN Social at Fraser Street.
Like its sister concept, Michelin-recommended YEN Yakiniku, YEN Social may specialise in dry-aged wagyu and yakiniku, but they’ve also rolled out a full lunch service (as of 27 June 2023) featuring a variety of chargrilled dishes and specially curated wines at affordable prices.
Opt for a la carte or go for the more value-for-money set lunch option, with prices starting from S$25++ for a two-course wagyu-centric meal. Those dining in a group of three or four can even go for the Sharing Set (S$100++), which comes with a choice of three starters, two mains, and a signature steak.
It’s hard to go wrong with starters like the Chargrilled Seasonal Vegetables (U.P. S$12) and Charcoal Mash (U.P. S$10), but we recommend the Caesar Salad with Wagyu Bits & Shaved Parmesan (U.P. S$16++). It swaps out the usual bacon for wagyu bits that add extra oomph to the crunchy romaine, parmesan shavings, and creamy Caesar dressing.
Do note that those who opt for the set lunch will receive a half portion of the salad.
If you’re feelin’ a little more luxe, the Smoked Scallop Carpaccio with Yuzu Vinaigrette (U.P. $14++, add S$5 for set) comprises wood-smoked sashimi-grade Hokkaido scallops topped with an invigorating yuzu oil.
There are way more mains to choose from, including the popular YEN Chargrilled Wagyu Burger & Fries (U.P. S$25, add S$7 for set) that first made an appearance during Circuit Breaker in 2021.
Think a juicy patty made using 100% wagyu cuts layered with mushroom, shredded cabbage, and two types of cheese on wagyu fat-toasted milk buns — delicious. See what I mean about the menu being wagyu-centric?
Fans of Taiwanese food will enjoy the Wagyu Lu Rou Fan (U.P. S$18++), an elevated version of the classic comfort dish, which sees A5 wagyu braised for hours in soy sauce and five spice powder, then served atop Akita Japanese rice with daikon and a runny egg.
If you, like me, find it hard to resist a succulent steak, the YEN Steak & Wagyu Fat Fries (U.P. S$40++, add S$18 for set with fries) will be right up your alley.
Prime USDA striploin is grilled till a lovely medium rare, and served with a side of addictive Wagyu Fat Fries (U.P. S$10), double-fried house-cut russet potatoes sprinkled with bits of crunchy lard-like (gasp!) wagyu fat.
Two non-beef mains are available, the first being the Chargrilled Iberico Pork with Japanese Shiso Chimichurri (S$22++), consisting of tender and juicy iberico pork jowl paired with a herbaceous, slightly tangy shiso chimichurri.
The flavourful fat rendered from the pork is then caramelised and used to fry the accompanying Pork Fat Fried Rice. Enjoy it with a side of super shiok chilli, and you’re all set!
But if you’d rather have a seafood dish, the Chargrilled Seafood Bucatini Pasta (U.P. S$25, add S$7 for set) showcases smoky chargrilled octopus, jumbo prawn, and scallop with a homemade basil tomato-based bucatini pasta.
I hope I’m making you feel excited about lunch, because a beefy afternoon awaits at YEN Social!
