There’s a hidden French gem along Desker Road that might just become your new favourite spot for leisurely lunches and snazzy dinner dates — Allo.
Located just a short walk from Mustafa Centre (post-dinner shopping, anyone?), Allo brands itself as a cafe, brasserie, and bistro, with the added bonus of alfresco seating for that casual European dining vibe.
From hearty fare like Truffle Mushroom Risotto (S$21) and Beef Tenderloin with Potato Dauphinoise & Seasonal Vegetable (S$33) to brunch classics like Rosti, Eggs & Minute Steak (S$26), the menu features authentic yet unpretentious French cuisine with a slight fusion twist.
However, first-timers who want the most bang for their buck should look no further than the set lunches, available from 11am–3pm on Tuesdays to Fridays.
Weekday set lunches
Out of the two set lunches available, the more affordable La Pasta (S$15.90++) is inclusive of a starter and a main.
Start off with a zesty Tomato Soup, Prawn Salad, or Smoked Duck Breast Salad, followed by a sweet and spicy Prawn Arrabiata (U.P. S$22), Mushroom Aglio Olio (U.P. S$16), or Braised Beef Cheek Pasta (U.P. S$24).
As its name suggests, the La Proteins (S$22.90++) menu features the same starters alongside meaty options like the Roasted Whole Chicken Leg and Roast Beef. Top up an additional S$4 for dessert (but of course) and choose between the Assorted French Cheese Cake or Lemon Tart Brulee (U.P. S$11) — I’d go for the latter, anytime!
