Serving coffee out of a HDB flat window in Pasir Ris, Ground Floor Coffee takes hole-in-the-wall coffee shops to a whole new level. They only officially opened about a month ago, but they’ve already gone viral all over social media — and we’re not surprised. After all, it’s not every day you see someone sell coffee out of their own window.
The home-based business is run by self-taught barista Adhwa Hasif, who started out by experimenting with different coffee beans, syrup mixtures, and milk. A photographer by day, he only opens the unconventional coffee kiosk whenever he is free — which is mainly on Fridays and weekends.
Still, the unusual opening hours haven’t stopped people from all parts of Singapore from coming down to try out his drinks — which are brewed using premium specialty coffee beans from New Zealand.
If you’re a fan of floral drinks, try their Lavender Latte (S$6), a bestseller that contains real lavender and has an aromatic floral note. Alternatively, another drink that comes highly recommended is the Dark Mokka (S$6), which is made with Adhwa’s secret blend of espresso, brewed with a mix of dark and milk chocolate.
Besides drinks, you’ll also find Kek Gula Hangus (S$2.50) on the menu. Freshly baked by Adhwa’s mother every day, the fragrant, sticky kek made with burnt sugar is not overly sweet, and pairs perfectly with a good cup of coffee.
The shop even has their own loyalty card and a few field chairs outside for you to take a seat and relax as you enjoy their drinks.
If you’re planning to head down, keep an eye on their Instagram account, which they keep updated on when they are open for business. To cut down on queue times, they only take pre-orders, so contact them through their Instagram to let them know what drink you’d like before collecting it from their window.
