If you, like the folks at Kings Cart Coffee Factory, are all about coffee (it’s a lifestyle and not just a beverage), this is your sign to swing by their Joo Chiat outlet for a caffeinated good time.
The cafe, nestled along Joo Chiat Road, aims to reinvent the coffee experience with a fresh new take on your favourite brew — one you won’t find at other cafes.
True enough, the menu comprises unique flavoured coffees and coffee cocktails, alongside a selection of breakfast, brunch, and dessert offerings.
Although you won’t go wrong with bestsellers like the Coconut Latte (S$9) and locally-inspired Pandan Sweet Cream (S$9) — cold brew topped with pandan-infused sweet cream — the iced beverages are in a league of their own.
We highly recommend the refreshing and fizzy Sng Buey (S$9), which is iced coffee infused with sour plum and soda, served in a glass with a rim of sour plum powder.
There’s also the Yuzu Cloud (S$9), cold brew with zesty yuzu sorbet and lemon foam, that’ll cool you down in an instant.
Although more of a dessert than a drink, I’ve also got to give a shoutout to the Ah Bo Ling (S$7.50), black sesame tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) served with a shot of milk and espresso.
If you’re in the mood to day drink (I usually am), you can take your pick from a trio of fun coffee cocktails, which include the likes of a Cold Brew High Ball (S$22), cold brew mixed with Singapore Dry Gin, curacao, and a dash of pineapple juice.
As a big rum lover, I was more drawn to the Rum Pum Pum (S$22), a cosy concoction of dark rum, gula melaka, and a shot of espresso. It is then topped with a frothy layer of milk and sugar, before being torched, and finally crowned with smoked rosemary.
Sweet, smoky, and complex — I’d gladly order it again!
But if you’re more of a coffee cocktail purist, the Espresso Martini (S$18) is taken up a notch with cream, in addition to house blend espresso and vodka, yielding a rich, smooth, and not-too-sweet drink that’ll give you the kick you need to conquer the evening.
Food-wise, you can find plenty of perfectly serviceable nibbles to pair with your tipples, like the King’s Breakfast (S$28), Fish & Chips with Laksa Sauce (S$21), and Portobello Aglio Olio (S$21).
I was unfortunately not super impressed by the Gypsy Toast (S$19), given that the French butter brioche was way too dense, texture-wise. The accompanying pistachio cream, however, was divine.
Ready to unwind over some seriously unique coffees, cocktails, and desserts the next time you find yourself cafe-hopping in Joo Chiat?
