As an acclaimed expert in Thai food (admin is half Thai by the way), I am ridiculously excited about this. Bangkok’s famous egg rice is finally coming to Singapore, thanks to Running Egg! No more booking flights to the Land of Smiles just to get your fix — the iconic creamy egg goodness is now here.
The taste? Confirm legit. Running Egg uses authentic recipes straight from the renowned Hereduan Street Food in Bangkok. Plus, the two chefs have spent a combined five years perfecting their craft. It doesn’t get more authentic than this.
The menu is refreshingly simple, which I love. They have four original dishes — Prawn (S$7.80), Chicken Basil (S$6.80), Pork Jowl (S$7.80), and Moo Ping (S$7.80) also known as Grilled Pork. For a local twist, there’s a Singapore-exclusive, Luncheon Meat (S$5.80).
Personally, I am most excited to try out the Moo Ping, a childhood favourite of mine. I appreciate how Running Egg keeps their menu small and fuss-free. There’s just something comforting about knowing they’re putting all their love in these dishes.
The prices are also pretty affordable considering how it’s cheaper than it is in Bangkok! What a steal. The recipe and flavour have also been carefully refined to suit Singaporean palates — which could mean that it’s less spicy (admin hopes otherwise, she loves her chili).
And here’s the cherry on top: every ingredient you see on your plate, which means the fragrant rice to the creamy eggs to the condiments has been imported directly from Thailand. Each plate comes with four premium Thai eggs, which is insanely good value for money.
You can find Running Egg in a cosy neighbourhood in Ang Mo Kio, so swing by and grab a plate of runny and luscious egg-topped rice. So the real question is: are you heading down to try this egg-cellent dish anytime soon?
