The best things to do in August 2024, including immersive exhibitions, family-friendly attractions & massive hobby-based events

by Christabel Tan

Aren’t you glad that we’ve officially reached the second half of the year?

Aside from the National Day celebrations (and for some, the start of a new school semester), immersive exhibitions, family-friendly attractions, and hobby-based events are aplenty this month.

So, don’t twiddle your thumbs and sit idly by, because these are all the things you can do, see, and experience in Singapore this August 2024!

1. Films At The Fort

One of the very few places to enjoy a sunset picnic and movie date with your boo is at Films At The Fort, one of Singapore’s most popular open-air cinema concepts.

Held from 1 to 18 August 2024 in the historic natural amphitheatre at Fort Canning Green, this is where you’ll be able to watch 8 nostalgic classics and award-winning festival films from Cannes, Sundance, and the Academy Awards.

You can look forward to a full menu of dinner, desserts and snacks by The Providore, along with a fully stocked bar with tipples like cocktailswine, and beer.

Each ticket (S$42.80) also comes inclusive of a refreshing Glenfiddich cocktail or two non-alcoholic drinks — sounds like a good time in the making!

2. Aqua Adventure

Looking for a fun way to beat the scorching heat?

It’s high time you ditched boring ol’ swimming pools, especially if you’re an eastie, for a trip to Aqua Adventure, Singapore’s first integrated indoor water adventure centre.

Instead of spending the weekend soaking up air conditioning at the usual shopping malls, why not round up the entire family for a fun-filled day as you explore zones packed with both wet and dry interactive play elements?

Get ready to scale to even greater heights and move from platform to platform, swing from bars and more — all while being splashed by water — at the Indoor Aquatic Challenge Rope Course.

Embark solo on a series of exhilarating twists and turns at the 85-metre long Indoor Black Hole Slide, before reuniting with your friends and family at the end of the Double Trouble Slide.

If you’re more of the chill sort, hang out at the Laze Pool, where you’ll still be entertained with friendly game segments like Captain’s Ball, frisbee, and volleyball.

Afterwards, head indoors to traverse Scramble Net, a net obstacle course that’ll send you scrambling (literally!) through rope courses, tyre platforms, and swings.

Ticket prices start from as low as S$25 for HomeTeamNS members and S$30 for PA/Safra cardholders, and go up to just S$35 for regular visitors

There are two time slots on weekdays, but visiting on a weekend will give you full-day entry. Oh, and re-entry is allowed, so feel free to grab a bite at one of the neighbouring F&B eateries before going back in for more splashing good fun.

Clearly, the POP Mart craze is far from fading, so you can expect to see hordes of POP Mart fans descend upon the Sands Expo & Convention Centre from 23 to 25 August at the POP Toy Show 2024, with the official theme being “Dimoo in the Garden City”.

The event will centre on the character Dimoo, the shy yet curious boy best recognised for the baby cloud sitting on his head.

You can get your hands on not one, not two but four PTS-exclusive Dimoo collectibles. On top of that, a life-sized Dimoo will be stationed at his very own booth for photo-taking opportunities.

Other popular POP Mart characters you’ll get to meet include Hirono, Sweet Bean and Pino Jelly, and their respective artists. There will also be living drawing sessions, alongside Singapore-exclusive memorabilia not available elsewhere, so fans will be in for a real treat.

Prices for a standard three-day ticket start at S$68 and can be purchased here.

4. Celebrating Singapore @ CHIJMES

If you plan on hanging out in the City Hall area, why not spend the day at CHIJMES, where you’ll find an exciting line-up of activities organised in celebration of both National Day and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
