Wine Connection is an unassuming date night spot with over 300 wine labels at affordable prices to pair with hearty mains and decadent desserts

I heard a rumour that Wine Connection has received some mixed reviews about their food — some people love it, others not so much. Well, let’s debunk that once and for all.

Wine Connection opened their 15th outlet in Westgate and so we had to check out their extensive wine collection but more importantly, the food menu.

Did you know that they are the exclusive importer of over 300 labels of wine from all around the world? There are  several outlets islandwide so if you’re looking for a new date night spot that’s close to home for some wining and dining at affordable prices, be sure to hit them up.

We started our meal with the Mixed Platter (S$46) paired with the Sauvignon Blanc. The platter had a mix of farm cheeses, imported ham, bread basket and condiments. I loved the savoury and smokey cuts of hams which paired with the creamy cheeses.

The white wine added a nice sweet and fruity touch that also helped to cleanse the palette from all the savoury goodness of the meats and cheeses.

Probably my favourite dish of the night was the Truffle & Mushroom Fettuccine (S$22). Thankfully, it had just the right amount of truffle fragrance, without being too overpowering

The pasta was cooked till al dente with thin slices of king oyster mushrooms in a nice and creamy truffle cream sauce that was oh so yummy. It paired perfectly with the La Chablisienne, a white wine with a rich and crisp finish.

The BBQ Pork Ribs (S$24) was fall-off-the bone tender and juicy with a nice smokey BBQ sauce which made it taste extra juicy.  However, I would have preferred if the ribs were dosed in more sauce for a more flavourful bite. The ribs pair best with the Malbec Reserva which will be perfect for those who prefer dry reds.

If you’re looking for a decent steak, Wine Connection does a pretty decent sirloin steak as well as other hearty mains like Smoked Chilli Aglio Olio (S$15), Bolognese (S$18), and a selection of Pizzas (from S$19). Having tried their BBQ ribs, I might return to give their other mains a go.

Dessert-wise, we were served the Dessert Medley (S$19) which had a serving of crepe, apple crumble, and a lemon tart. The crepe was a miss for me as I felt it was too thick and eggy.

But I really enjoyed the apple crumble — which has been met with raving reviews online. It is best enjoyed warm with a scoop of ice cream on top. The apple cubes were also nicely seasoned with cinnamon.

The Lemon Tart (available a la carte) is another dessert to order when you pop by. The tart was a nice balance of sweet and sour, with  a nicely torched sugar top — almost like a creme brulee. I also enjoyed that the crust was soft and buttery.

The desserts paired perfectly with the sweet and fruity Moscato D’Asti that helped us end our night on a sweet note.

Honestly, the food served here was pretty decent considering that Wine Connection is not typically known for their food offerings.

Oh and before we forget, in celebration of their 15th outlet opening in Westgate, they are having a special promotion from now until 31 August 2023, where you can get S$15 off with every S$100 spent on wines — that’s pretty easy to hit since each bottle costs around S$30.

If you’re looking to stock up on some booze, you know where to head to!
