Ever face the dilemma of wanting some good drinks (no, not alcohol) at 3am? As a proud night owl, that has occurred to me more times than I could count and I’d even claim to be an expert on convenience store drinks.

So, when tons of advertisements popped up on my YouTube of this vending machine in Singapore, my interest was piqued. What the Cup is a fun name to pronounce and the company behind this smart machine.

Even with my superior research skills, I’m unable to find out more information about What the Cup. From what I’ve gathered, though, it’s a result of a cool collaboration between PepsiCo and Tao Bin Beverage. The latter is known for their robotic ‘cafe’, which is essentially the vending machine.

Think the drink selection is limited? Think again! What the Cup serves up over 300 customisable drink options, so you’re definitely spoiled for choice. Choose from five types of drinks: Coffee, Tea, Milk, Protein Shake, and Soda.

Coffee-based beverages start from just S$2 for a 30ml espresso. If you’re like me and like it milky, get the classic Latte (from S$2.50 for hot) instead. While the coffee is unlikely to win any awards, the drinks impress by using freshly ground Arabica beans and recipes crafted by top baristas.

More unique coffee-based drinks I’ve spotted include Lychee Americano and Taiwanese Tea Cafe Latte. Yes, all these drinks come with an iced option (a must for Singapore’s heat).

For tea, there’s the crowd-favourite Matcha Latte (S$3), which you can get blended for an additional S$1. There’s also Hot Lime Thai Black Tea, Ginger Tea, and Taiwanese Milk or Black Tea.

However, what I personally think is What the Cup’s specialty is their milk-based smoothies. You’ll see concoctions that are simply too hard to resist. I mean, who would say no to Milo Smoothie Volcano (S$6) and Oreo Smoothie Volcano (S$6)?

For something more refreshing, their range of sodas might come in handy, such as Pepi Yuzu (S$2) and Plum Limenade Soda (from S$2).

What’s awesome about these drinks is the level of customisation — you can tweak the sweetness and even add toppings to craft a drink that’s perfectly yours!

At the moment, What the Cup’s vending machines can be found at 30 locations throughout Singapore, with the majority of them in town. For those working in the CBD, the closest one to y’all is at Fook Hai Shopping Mall.

What’s the first drink you’re going to create?
