It seems there’s a camping-themed dining concept everywhere we look. Camping-style BBQ? We got it. Camping-style food court? There’s one in JB.
However, most of these spots still serve on regular plates and bowls, making it feel more like a restaurant than a true camping experience. If you’re looking for an authentic outdoor vibe, this hidden gem tucked away in Seletar Aerospace Park is the real deal.
NOMADS is situated at The Oval, where a cluster of black-and-white colonial bungalows are now home to a bunch of F&B outlets. NOMADS is one of them, offering a tranquil environment away from the hustle and bustle.
I won’t lie — it’s not the easiest place to get to. The nearest LRT station is still about a 10-minute drive or a 30-minute walk away. But don’t let this stop you from heading down as the cafe is simply beautiful and I can definitely see myself enjoying a good brunch here on the weekends.
The cafe occupies a two-storey bungalow, providing both outdoor and indoor dining areas.
Practicality and comfort-wise, we’ll probably choose to stay indoors to enjoy the air conditioning. But if the weather is nice, I recommend dining outside as you can have your meal under actual camping tents!
And, that’s not all. Your food and drinks also come in mess tins and steel cups — just like how actual campers do. You know how food instantly tastes better when it’s in cute packaging? I bet it’ll be the same here too.
Nonetheless, the most important question is “How’s the food?”. According to reviews online, it looks like it’s a big hit. Their all-day breakfast menu is rather extensive, so you’ve a wide selection to choose from.
Their Bigman’s Breakfast (S$28) is a classic and will never go wrong, featuring slices of sourdough bread paired with eggs, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, beans, and potatoes. It’ll no doubt be a filling meal.
For a healthier alternative, opt for the Green Garden Pasta (S$25). Pasta is tossed with pesto, baby spinach, and cherry tomatoes, making for one light and refreshing dish.
Other highlights include the Scout Skillet Hash (S$23) with rosti and sausage topped with sour cream, and Beef Cubes with Mustard (S$16).
Just like in camping, staying hydrated is essential, so be sure to drink aplenty. Choose from various coffee beverages, teas, and juices, alongside mocktails, beers, and cocktails.
They’ve unique concoctions like the Iced Buttercream Americano (S$8), Raspberry Herbal (S$6), and Zesty Cucume (S$12) — a mocktail infused with ume plum and lime.
Happy Hour takes place from 3pm to 8pm, during which you can indulge in a pint of beer from just S$11 and cocktails from S$13.
