Fan of hotpot and lok lok, but on a budget? I have just the thing for you.
Situated five minutes away from Bugis MRT, Zhou Ji Chuan Chuan Xiang offers the most affordable hotpot experience with skewers starting from just S$0.25.Â
Thatâs right, youâre getting a bang for your buck as you get to choose from over 100 varieties of meat, seafood, and vegetable skewers for less than a dollar! Better yet, they have over 5o hotpot items from just S$4 â this is exactly as good as it sounds.Â
Unlike other Chinese restaurants, the food here is extremely value-for-money considering thereâs such a wide spread of meats, seafood, vegetables and more to choose from.
Menu-wise, they specialise in beef skewers so be sure to give it a try. You can expect to find your typical items like coriander beef, beef with enoki mushrooms, and beef tripe.
Something that I donât see often is beef with mint skewers which comprises umami beef alongside cooling mint leaves. Itâs certainly an interesting food combination, but anything to beat the scorching heat in Singapore right?
But, if youâre not a fan of beef, get the spicy spare ribs skewers marinated in their special fragrant and aromatic chilli.
Those who have a lower spice tolerance, donât worry, as the sauce isnât mind-numbingly spicy so you can still enjoy the taste of the flavorful and tender pork.
Take your time to browse through the other skewers like scallops, prawns, crayfish and so much more. If you have the stomach for it, try the duck gizzards or pork aorta that becomes incredibly tender when you cook it in the broth.
They also have plenty of soup bases to choose from like tangy tomato, spicy mala, and chicken soup. Get this, the latter comes with a hearty serving of a whole chicken so you just know that the broth is gonna be nourishing and rich.
Soak up all the savoury goodness from the broth using hotpot ingredients like melt-in-your-mouth prawn paste, abalone, and oystersâ super comforting, especially on a rainy day.
Dropping by for lunch during work?
You might prefer something that is less filling to avoid the food coma later on (been there, done that). Zhou Ji Chuan Chuan Xiang also offers lunch sets like Claypot Tomato Meatball (S$7.80) and Claypot Chicken with Soya Sauce (S$12.80) to satisfy your hunger pangs.
Plus, there are private rooms on the second level so you can consider hosting your celebrations here, be it for company lunches, birthdays or anniversaries.
The next time you are looking for a hotpot place without breaking the bank, you know where to go!
