I belong to the rare breed of millennials who understands absolutely nothing about mahjong, besides the word “Pong” being used excessively. But it doesn’t take a genius to know that the new Adidas Ultraboost Mahjong sneakers will be a big hit with the market, especially with CNY just around the corner.
Adidas Ultraboost Mahjong sneakers

Sold at S$249 at Footlocker, the Adidas Ultraboost Mahjong sports colourful mahjong tiles, along with special jargons such as the Chinese characters “玩”, which means “play” and “自摸”, which means “self-touch” or, winning through drawing your own hand. With these adorable motifs, they’ll surely bring a spring to your step for your next mahjong game.
The women’s edition is decked in pastel tones of pink, green and yellow to complement the whites, while the men’s come in resplendent black and gold. But if you ask me, with kicks like these, any gender can rock the pair.

The Adidas Ultraboost series was designed with only one goal in mind: to be the best running shoe ever made. The sole in each Ultraboost is made from hundreds of foam capsules welded together, delivering 20% more energy back to its user, as compared to the standard rubber in running shoes. This means running more while using lesser energy. A must-have when your mahjong kakis start chasing you for your losing debt.
For now, the sneakers are only available on Footlocker. However, they’re selling out fast. Less than six of the women’s Adidas Ultraboost (size U.S 7.6) are left at the time of writing, and only one posting of the men’s can be found on Carousell. Albeit the price, this is a shoe that’ll get your friends and relatives talking this CNY.
Here’s to hoping that Adidas will replenish its stocks soon. But in the meantime, why not take a look at Nike’s latest adaptive sneakers?
I leave the office at 6PM on the . to rush home and play games. My boss has no control over me!!
