There’s something deeply comforting about a warm, fluffy bao.
For me, it’s a taste that instantly transports me back to childhood: memories of my grandmother handing me a freshly steamed bun, its soft exterior giving way to a delicious, savoury filling. Now, as an adult, that nostalgia lingers, making every bite feel like home.
If you share that same love for these buns, you’ll be excited to hear about Bao Bao 宝包, a new kiosk at ION Orchard that’s bringing handmade steamed buns to the heart of the city. With all baos priced under S$3, this spot offers a mix of traditional flavours and modern twists, making it a must-visit for bun lovers.

The menu is divided into two main categories: Traditional and Signature.
The former features classic fillings like Roasted Char Siew Bao (S$1.50), Big Pork Bao (S$2.90), and Braised Pork Belly Bao (S$2.90).

The Braised Pork Belly Bao, in particular, is a steal with generous chunks of pork belly (this was one of admin’s favourites when she was a child).

For the Signature range, this is where things get interesting.
Creative creations include Adzuki Red Bean Mochi Bao (S$1.60), Orh Nee Bao (S$1.60), and the indulgent Valrhona Chocolate Lava Bao (S$2).
The Valrhona Chocolate Lava Bao stands out with the rich ooze of molten chocolate in every bite. Chocolate lovers would definitely love this.

There’s also a selection of budget-friendly baos at just S$1.20 each, including Coffee Bao, Lotus Seed Bao, Bean Paste Bao, Longevity Peach Bao, and Rabbit Bao.
The Coffee Bao especially piques my curiosity. Growing up, I wasn’t allowed coffee, and I’ve never thought to try a coffee-filled bao until now.

For me, I’m most excited about the Orh Nee Bao, with its creamy taro paste infused with fragrant shallot oil.

Also, what sets them apart is the dedication to quality. Each bao is handmade using a natural yeast starter and a slow fermentation process that takes up to 14 hours. This results in a bun that’s light, fluffy, and slightly chewy.
Furthermore, they also offer staples like Siew Mai (S$1.20 per piece) and Chicken Glutinous Rice (S$4.80), making it a convenient stop for a quick bite.

Conveniently located at Basement 4 of ION Orchard, this is an accessible and affordable spot to satisfy your cravings.
So, will you stop by the next time you’re in town?
