Many believe Udders and Gelare are the best dessert spots due to their scrumptious, milky ice cream selections, while more adventurous supper seekers will claim Lickers at Lavender or CHURN at Tampines One for their bizarre yet mind-blowing ice cream flavours instead. 

We had previously shared that Cold Break Cafe in Jalan Besar was our favourite dessert spot. Just reminiscing about the chewiness from the mochi filling, complementing the soft yet crunchy texture of the waffle, makes us want to run back instantly. 

However, there’s no way we would let one good cafe stop us from exploring and discovering more dessert spots that are just as good, or even better! 

Especially when our one true love, Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee cafe’s flagship outlet, is closed for renovation for the time being. Fortunately, we managed to sneak in one last trip to savour their delectables. 

Your attention will be drawn to the vivid, alluring colours before you realise they are all of the ice cream options available at the Toa Payoh outlet.

Do you want something tangy and refreshing? Try the yummy Honey Lemon Yuzu or milky Summer Strawberries. Perhaps you like nutty, sweet flavours, which is what Butterscotch Almond is described as.

However, nothing compares to their distinctive flavours, which are only available at Creamier, like Sweet Potato Sweet Like Chingu or Hokey Pokey.

Creamier promises that there will be an ice cream flavour that will satisfy everyone’s desire for something cold, sweet, and delicious.

A single scoop of ice cream costs S$4.90, while two scoops cost S$8.80. Premium flavours require an additional S$1 to S$1.50 to be purchased. I will definitely be getting two scoops just because one scoop is never enough. 

In contrast to other dessert cafes, Creamier serves waffles in portions of two squares, which is half of what is typically served in other cafes. 

But are the waffles more expensive and smaller because of this? Not at all! One serving of waffles is available for just S$7.50. 

If dinner has left you and your friends feeling stuffed, order one serving of waffles and divide the squares among yourselves. What a feast of waffle ice cream! 

Water is complimentary for all dine-in customers, aesthetically presented by a bronze-coloured tap with plastic cups by the side for anyone to have a quick sip. 

As a loud and proud Toa Payoh resident, I’ll definitely miss Creamier’s outlet here. Fortunately, there are still operating stores in Margaret Drive, Tiong Bahru, and Punggol Northshore while I patiently await their reopening at Toa Payoh.

While you dig in at Creamier, we’ll continue on our dessert hunt for more choices as always.

What’s that, you ask? All Singaporeans aged 18 and above in 2025 (born before 2008) will receive S$100 worth of credits to spend on over 400 local arts and heritage programmes.

Yes, this includes all Singapore Citizens as of 31 December 2024.

This isn’t a sneaky way to get discounted K-pop tickets, as the credits can’t be used for foreign performances, or food and drinks.

SG Culture Pass aims to immerse us in our rich local arts scene (which will effectively die out unless we do something), with literary events, dance recitals, exhibitions, plays, workshops, and concerts.

To redeem your credits, simply visit the official SG Culture Pass website here and log in with your SingPass account from 1 September 2025 onwards. That’s also where you’ll find the full list of eligible activities, which can be filtered by date, type, and location.

These credits are valid for three years, from 1 September 2025 to 31 December 2028, so take your time to plan your events (math isn’t my strong suit, but you’ve got to make the S$100 worth every buck).

The best part? A majority of 70% of the events will be priced below S$50, and any remaining cost can be topped up through credit card or PayNow.

Authorised providers include Sistic, BookMyShow, GlobalTix, Klook, Pelago, and Trip.com.

Alternatively, Catch is the only official marketing partner, which gave us a sneak peek into what to expect.

Sing60 Music Festival (One-Day Pass: S$40, Two-Day Pass: S$60) is taking over Fort Canning Park for two days of local music by over 60 home-grown acts. 

On 6 and 7 December 2025, sway to pop singers Benjamin Kheng and Shazza, the Talentime All-Stars, mandopop singers Mavis Hee, other indie and alternative music artists, and electronic music artists. 

If you’re an adventurous soul, Sentosa: Fort Siloso History Game Walking Tour (S$38) is a tech-guided walking tour. Part Amazing Race and part Escape Room, it promises thrilling secret bunkers and hidden passageways.

Graffiti may be illegal in Singapore, but at Off the Wall: LETTER/FORMS, you’ll be able to watch three artists live-paint large-scale murals… and take part in the spray painting yourself.

Foodies, The Studios Pickle Party 泡泡菜狂欢也! by The Theatre Practice (S$40) is a play disguised as a pickling workshop, and you’ll actually get to make pickles on-stage.

While it’s getting increasingly easier to cross the Causeway thanks to public transport (peep the upcoming JB-KL Electric Train Service and Rapid Transport Link), some of us still prefer driving across the border.

Before you get too excited, however, here’s a foolproof guide to Malaysia’s Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). If you’re confused, just think of the VEP as your car’s passport. 

What is VEP?

Starting 1 July 2025, every Singapore-registered vehicle must have a valid VEP to enter Malaysia. Failure to do so? A hefty MYR 300 (S$90) fine. And yes, you’ll have to pay this upfront before leaving Malaysia (as well as applying for the VEP on the spot).

Repeat offenders face serious consequences, from fines of up to MYR 2,000 (S$602) to a ban from Malaysia and even jail time of six months.

How do I apply for VEP?

To apply for a VEP, ensure that you have the following ready:

• Your NRIC
• Your passport
• Vehicle road tax and insurance information
• Vehicle model, chassis number, and Certificate of Entitlement (COE)

Alternatively, you can download your vehicle log card in PDF format from the Land Transport Authority’s OneMotoring website here.

Next, head over to the VEP portal to register. After verifying your email, log in to the portal and complete the form with your vehicle’s details. At this stage, do ensure that you already have an existing Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.

Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email, which could take up to weeks (so this is your sign to plan early).

How do I collect my VEP-RFID tag?

Once your application is successfully approved, Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) will email you with your radio frequency identification (RFID) tag collection details.  There’s also a processing fee of MYR 10 (S$3).

Free self-collection is available at the following locations:

• MY VEP Pte Ltd: 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5, #03-01, Singapore 757515, 9am–5pm (Mon to Fri)
• TCSens VEP Collection Centre: Block 6, Danga Bay, Jalan Skudai, 80200 Johor, 9am–5pm (Wed to Sun)
• Paradigm Mall: Carpark at Level 7, Skudai Highway, 81200 Johor Bahru, 10am–10pm (Daily)
• Sunway Big Box: West Wing’s lower ground carpark, Persiaran Medini 6, Sunway City, 79250 Iskandar Puteri, 10am–9pm (Daily)

You can also opt for home delivery in Singapore, with a service fee of MYR 30 (S$9) and a postage fee of around MYR 15 (S$4.50). Sales and service tax apply.

How do I activate my VEP-RFID tag?

Once you’ve obtained your RFID tag, don’t just stick it anywhere!

Make sure to place it at the top-left corner of your car’s windscreen or left headlamp. It should be pasted on a clean, flat, and dry surface, at least 5cm away from any part of the car’s metal frame.

Afterwards, take a clear picture of the tag, along with the car’s license plate and upload it to the portal here. Once the tag is successfully activated, you will be notified by email.

Other useful information

Your RFID tag works together with your Touch ‘n Go e-wallet (but having the physical card as backup is always a smart move). Make sure your card has sufficient credit for the MYR 20 (S$6) road fee before entering Johor’s land checkpoints, plus any road tolls along your journey.

Your activated VEP is only valid for five years, so it’s a good idea to set a calendar reminder now for renewal. Moreover, ensure your VEP is valid for at least six months before entering Malaysia.
