What is the Lyrid Meteor Shower?

The Lyrid meteor shower is an annual celestial event that takes place as Earth passes through a trail of debris left by the Comet Thatcher. It’s known to have radiant meteors and to leave occasional bright flashes called a fireball. 

How to get the best views of the Meteor Shower

For optimal viewing in Singapore, the showers are said to peak on 22 April 2026 and 23 April 2026 after 11pm. For the best chance of spotting them, stay away from city lights and other forms of light pollution, and find a dark area with a clear view of the sky. Just in case you aren’t sure, we’ve compiled a few places to watch the meteor shower.

Changi Beach Park

Located near the edge of Singapore, Changi Beach is largely unaffected by the city lights and is a prime area for stargazing. The spacious beach and empty fields make a comfortable spot to settle for the night. Along with the cool seaside breeze, it’s one of our top spots for the best viewing experience.

East Coast Park 

East Coast Park is another area commonly frequented by casual stargazers. Its more accessible location makes it a popular choice; however, there is slightly more light pollution with the LED lamps placed along every road. If you do choose to stargaze there, we recommend finding a darker and more secluded area, such as the beach, for a better chance of spotting the meteor shower.

Labrador Nature Reserve

Labrador Nature Reserve offers lovely panoramic views of the sea and gets very dark at night, making it a suitable place to stargaze. However, it doesn’t have expansive fields and beaches like Changi Beach or East Coast Park. Rather, you may have to settle on a bench along its trail or boardwalk, or on the concrete floor of the Berlayer Shade. Whatever it is, the beautiful, tranquil views and clear view of the night sky will definitely make it worth the trouble.

Punggol 

Punggol has been a prime area for stargazing due to its low light pollution, and it even has its own astronomy club! Recommended viewing spots there include the Lorong Haulus Wetland, Sunrise Bridge in Punggol Waterway Park, and the Punggol Point Observation Deck in Punggol Point Park.

Upper Seletar Reservoir

One of the more scenic spots to go stargazing, Upper Seletar Reservoir offers a breathtaking view from a field near its lookout tower. The serene spot is located near the water’s edge, so you can gaze out into an expansive open space and sky. It’s the perfect place for some quiet contemplation while you try to catch the meteor showers.

Yishun Dam 

The Yishun Dam is a secluded, hidden gem in the north that sports beautiful waterfront views and an uninterrupted vista of the skies. Situated near Rower’s Bay Park, it may not be the most accessible by public transport, but that just means you probably won’t have to share the space with throngs of fellow stargazers.

Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live: Glow-N-Fire

The adrenaline-filled production is known for bringing the iconic Hot-Wheel trucks to life and having them pull thrilling feats amongst roaring spectators. This time, they’re bringing in fan-favourite trucks like the Mega Wrex, Tiger Shark, Gunkster, Bone Shaker, Big Foot, Skelesaurus, and even an all-new rhinoceros-themed truck, Rhinomite. 

These trucks will be performing stunts that have never been witnessed before, as well as a heart-stopping No-Handed Front Flip stunt performed by the FMX riders. Other signature truck stunts you can look forward to are the Car Crushing—a monster truck crashing onto and flattening cars, the Doughnut—monster trucks driving in circles to create smoke and sound effects with their wheels, and Long or High Jumps. 

For mega fans, a VIP Pre-Show Experience will be available 2.5 hours before each show. You’ll enjoy exclusive access to the arena floor and get up close with the monster trucks before they take to the stage. Capy Crew Trail

Explore the different capybara enclosures through River Wonders’ dedicated Capy Crew Trail. Pick up a Capy Fan Card, and discover fun facts at each checkpoint. Upon completing the entire trail, and stand to redeem a limited-edition capy handphone strap, and a refreshing Ribena slushie at Little Chimi’s at the end of the trail.

Happening on specific dates across April, find out which day to visit the reserve to participate in the Capy Crew Trail here. From 9.30am to 5pm, collect your Capy Trail Fan Card at the entrance of River Wonders, and tick those checkpoints.

Jeju Island: Jeju Cherry Blossom Festival

The island on which the K-Drama When Life Gives You Tangerines is based, Jeju Island, is now an island of light pink cherry blossoms. At its annual Jeju Cherry Blossom Festival, the event stretches across Jeonnong-ro, the entrance to Jeju National University, and Jangjeon-ri, Aewol-eup.

Start your journey at Jeonnong-ro, a famous cherry blossom street that has nurtured a stunning tunnel of century-old royal cherry blossom trees. As the path continues, the entrance to Jeju National University greets you with more cherry trees that drape the pavements to enjoy the falling petals.

The last stop, Jangjeon-ri, is a beautiful village where not only tourists visit, but locals visiting just to witness Jeju’s spring. The Jangjeon-ri Cherry Blossom Road, especially, is what takes sightseers’ breaths away during day and night. 

Additionally, various booths are lined up on this street, comprising performances, hands-on activities, and flea markets under the dancing cherry blossoms. 

Busan: Namcheon-dong Cherry Blossom Street

Namcheon-dong is one of the representative cherry blossom streets in Busan, with the Namcheon-dong Cherry Blossom Street as a popular landmark among tourists. But on the street from Samick Beach Apartment to Gwangalli Beach, is a hidden lane to enjoy just as many cherry blossoms. 

If you’re looking to avoid the tourist crowd, then this street connecting Samick Beach Apartment to Gwangalli Beach is the place to be. However, do be considerate of the apartment residents during your visit! 

Another famous park known as a sanctuary for migrating birds, Samnak Eco Park consists of various wildflower gardens, bicycle paths, walking trails, and auto campgrounds. During the spring, more than 3000 cherry trees planted along the Nakdonggang Riverside form a natural flower tunnel, making it an unforgettable walk in the park.

Samnak Eco Park is also the largest among Nakdonggang River’s four riverside parks, stretching up to 7km (meaning just as many cherry blossoms)! 

Daegu: Ayang Gicha Trail

Visit the railroad bridging history and modern charm at the Ayang Gicha Trail. Once an old railroad trail, the road has now become a vibrant tourist attraction. Cultivating a landscape of vibrant cherry blossoms adorning its bridge, this view is sure to capture the hearts of both nature lovers and photographers. 

As you stroll along its natural path, discover its observatory offering panoramic views, engaging exhibitions, and a charming cafe. After taking in the view, nearby department stores, restaurants, and attractions like Shinsegae, Seomun Market, and the Ayang Art Centre await!

Daejeon: Daecheongho Cherry Blossom Road 

A scenic road spanning a whopping 26.6km, Daecheongho Cherry Blossom Road borders Daecheong Lake in Dajeon. This blossom road is also known as one of the area’s longest cherry blossom trails.

Offering a dense shade of cherry trees and picturesque lake views, Daecheongho Cherry Blossom Road spans from Dong-gu (Daejeon) towards Hoenam-myeon (Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do), wrapping around Daecheongho Lake.

A cherry blossom festival in Daejeon will also take place on 4 April 2026 at the Currency Museum in Yuseong District, Daejeon. The festival will feature a variety of hands-on programs, including face painting, balloon art, and magic performances. 

A flea market will also be held from 1pm to 4pm on the day of the event, offering secondhand items such as clothing and toys. 

Incheon: Incheon Grand Park 

Incheon Grand Park is the most family-friendly and the only large-scale natural green park in the region. Lined with countless 40-year-old King Cherries over the distance of 1.5km, the park is already blushing! 

Bring a blanket for a picnic at the park, and enjoy gazing at the blooming petals with your loved ones. Cherry blossoms in the Incheon Grand Park are also lined along its connecting street with Mansu-dong, along Jangsucheon Stream which is also dotted with forsythias during the cherry blossom season.

Seoul: Yeouido Hangang Park

Situated as the heart of Seoul’s downtown, Yeouido Hangang Park is easily accessible to view the cherry blossoms, and be part of the celebrations. 

The Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival in particular—features over 1600 cherry blossom trees, street performances, and night illuminations—offering a free and scenic experience along the Han River. 

Apart from viewing the cherry trees, be sure to try Yeouido Hangang Park’s different facilities, including rentable bicycles, picnic areas, food trucks, and more. 

Gwangju: Sajik Park

An eminent cultural site, Sajik Park, is established as a favourite rest area for Gwangju citizens. Landscaped with various trees and flower beds, the park blooms pink and white with cherry blossoms every mid-April. 

Nestled in the heart of Gwangju, the Sajik Park Observatory is another hidden gem that promises an unforgettable view. One of the only areas to get a panoramic view of Gwangju, this observatory offers a vantage point to capture the city, and serve as a safe haven from the hustle as you soak in the scenery.

Ulsan: Gunggeorang Park 

In the smallest metropolitan city of South Korea, Gunggeorang Park prides itself on being the representative cherry blossom festival attraction in Ulsan. 

Gunggeorang is actually a past byname of Mugeocheon River, dating back many ages ago, as it combines Gung (a river bend shaped like a bow) and Georang (a Gyeongsang-do dialect term for a stream or downtown)—thus gaining a park named after its iconic nickname. 

With about 400 cherry trees on the 2.5km cherry blossom street along Mugeocheon River, Gunggeorang Park presents the Gunggeorang Cherry Blossom Festival every year. Highlight activities from this event typically comprise concerts, walkathons, food markets, and prize drawings.

Gyeongju: Bomunho Lake 

Unlike other cities or towns where cherry trees are only found in certain areas, cherry blossoms are everywhere in Gyeongju. Combining lush trees reflected in the waters of Bomunho Lake, the view is indescribably peaceful. 

Built on the site of an old fortress in Myeonghwalsan Mountain, Bomunho Lake is a man-made lake. Containing many leisure facilities and parks around the lake, this body of water has earned its popularity among bikers and walkers.

Along the lake, a long walking trail accompanied by dense cherry trees becomes a hotspot in April. While cherry blossoms bloom, the park transforms into a pink snow field, magically bringing a smile to anyone who walks on it.

Along the lake shore, Bomun Open Air Stage hosts traditional Korean music performances every day from April to January, with free performances at that! 

Gangneung: Gyeongpoho Lake

Gyeongpoho Lake is one of Gangneung’s most iconic destinations, especially when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. During the spring, the Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival brings a season of fun and community under the dancing trees.

Throughout the festival, stroll along scenic trails lined with cherry blossom trees, admire Gyeongpoho Lake’s illumination during the night, and enjoy a series of hands-on experiences. On-site programs include, a flea market, and a local singing contest, making spring warmer than ever.

Adopting a gamified approach reminiscent of the Pokémon Go craze, they offer up reward vouchers to be earned along the 5 newly launched heritage routes. 

How it works

To get started, head over to CrowdTaskSG to join your quest. As you embark on each trail, you’ll be given 5 checkpoints to find with certain tasks to complete for CDC Trail Badges. Upon earning all 5 badges, you can exchange them for $5 of RedeemSG Rewards Vouchers. Keep your eyes peeled for adorable ollies along the way, as collecting all 6 earns you another S$10! Enjoy a glam night at the Hollywood Spotlight Club, and be joined by the appearances and interactions of Disney’s most iconic characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck!

If you’re more immersed in the olden aesthetics of Disney, the Navigator’s Club conjures up nostalgia with vintage maps, charts, photos, and artwork. Anticipate interactions with your favourite icons, as they share lively songs and tales of adventure.

On the more artistic side of the cruise, the Enchanted Summer Restaurant takes after the films Tangled and Frozen. In the Maximus dining room, the hall is adorned in hand-painted motifs, while the Olaf dining room welcomes you with shimmering icy decor.

Zooming out of the screen and into reality, enjoy an innovative dinner show celebrating the filmmaking legacy of Disney and Pixar Animation Studios at the Animator’s Palate. Dine amidst film strips, production props, and animation boards from wondrous movies such as The Little Mermaid, Encanto and Toy Story, and breathe life into your illustrations in the restaurant.

Possibly the determining factor in booking that trip, Disney Adventure currently offers two packages: a 3-Night Cruise Package and 4-Night Cruise Package. 

For families of four (2 adults, 2 children), the 3-Night Cruise Package will start from US$1826 (≈S$2340), while a 4-Night Cruise Package will start from US$2368 (≈S$3033).

If you’re wondering when to visit this attraction, Exploria actually opens its doors today, from 11am to 8pm on weekdays and until 9pm on weekends and public holidays. Standard admission is priced at S$38 for adults, and S$28 for children and students. However, signing up for a complimentary WildPass digital membership will enable you to enjoy discounted admission prices at S$34.20 for adults, S$25.20 for children and students, and S$20 for seniors. 

To mark the opening of the experience, you can also enjoy limited-time bundles including an admission ticket paired with an Exploria-themed collectable blind box, until 31 May 2026

Another trendy group loved for their mature charm, KISS OF LIFE, will be bringing a performance full of visuals and charisma. Loved for their songs like Igloo, Midas Touch, and Sticky, these queens will be stirring up a storm at the festival. 

Balancing the punk and hip energy of the two groups, get ready for a sweet and bubbly stage by FIFTY FIFTY. Famous for the songs Cupid, SOS, and Pookie, this will be a performance you won’t want to miss, right in the heart of Songkran!

The last K-Pop group ready to dominate the stage, get ready for RIIZE to fill the stage with a fiery show. Presenting a full 1-hour production, this group is bringing their best to the first edition of the K2O Songkran Music Festival. 

Not forgetting its local talents, Thai singer and actor DAOU will also be making an appearance, but not alone. Thai actor, singer, and special guest OFFROAD will also be accompanying DAOU in a special show. 

The night of the K20 Songkran Music Festival will start at 5pm, while doors to the festival will open at 2pm.

Tickets to the event can still be purchased for ฿3200 (≈S$130) and can be bought here. Snag them while you can, or else December might be the only time you will see a festival just as big!
