I’m all about trying new foods and different cuisines and one of the cuisines that has been on my list for quite some time now is Greek cuisine. That said, it’s not exactly the easiest to find in Singapore, especially one that is wallet-friendly. This Greek restaurant is about to change all that.

Éla is a Muslim-owned restaurant under the Black Hole Group, and some of you might know them from their previous outlet in Bukit Batok. The restaurant has since reopened in Jalan Sultan with a much bigger and dreamier space.

Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a vibey island resort far far away. The entire restaurant is decked in neutral tones with soft lighting to create a zen and chill space — almost like you’re at a spa.

Éla specialises in serving authentic Greek dishes from under S$20 — that’s honestly quite impressive. On the menu are classic Greek dishes like Pita Bread, Tzatziki, Shakshuka, and more. They even have an all-new brunch menu, available daily from 9am to 5pm.

We kicked off our feast here with the Strapatsada (S$14) which features eggs scrambled with tomato and red capsicum sauce, served with greek fried dough and salad. The dough was chewy and fluffy and paired well with the tangy tomato egg. I really loved that this dish was fairly light so you don’t feel too full afterwards.

The best way to enjoy this dish is to scoop some egg onto the fried dough and have it all in one bite. You’ll get the crunchy and nuttiness of the fried dough which blends well with the creamy and tangy egg.

The mushrooms and toast pairing is pretty common, so you must be wondering what’s so different about the Manitaria Toast (S$15). Three words: Green Pepper Spread. Yes, that’s right, green peppers.
When I first saw the description on the menu it did take some convincing to get me to try it, especially since I’m not the biggest fan of green peppers. Eating the spread on its own was a no-go for me. But, when you eat it together with the mushrooms and the grilled sourdough toast, the flavours were mind-blowing.

It’s creamy, tangy, savoury and surprisingly a little spicy, but not too much so even those with a low spice tolerance can still enjoy this. I love that the sourdough toast gives it a bit of the bite to the dish. Special shoutout to the poached egg that came with a super runny egg yolk.

If you’re going with friends, you should definitely order the Éla Brunch Platter (S$32) which comes with a medley of grilled meats, chicken and beef kofta (aka meatballs), garlic butter mushrooms, dips and flatbread. The platter also comes with an egg of your choice.

The real star of the platter for me was the grilled chicken gyro. It was nicely charred on the outside, and super juicy on the inside. And for all you chicken skin lovers out there, you’ll be pleased to know that the chicken skin here is nicely crisp too — bonus points for that!

The platter also comes with two types of Greek meatballs — chicken or beef. As someone who loves a good beef meatball, I found myself enjoying the chicken meatball more. The beef kofta, while flavourful, was a little on the saltier side. That said, both meatballs were moist on the inside with a nice crispy crust.

Other brunch dishes on the menu that you should definitely give a go include the Whipped Tyro & Egg (S$17), Orzo Souvlaki Bowl (S$18), and the Éla Breakfast (S$22).

Drinks-wise, we recommend getting a nice mocktail to wash down all the hearty meats. Éla sure has some unique mocktails like the Karyda Bliss (S$12) and Karpouzi Kafe (S$12). But my favourite is the Levanta Bliss (S$10) which comprises lavender, lemon and soda.
The lavender haze-esque drink was sweet with a nice floral finish and a strong lavender fragrance. The lemon really adds a nice refreshing touch and really helps to wash down all the grease.

If you’re looking for a chill and cosy place to enjoy spill the tea (figuratively, of course) over some hearty brunch sets, you know where to go! Éla also has set lunches available from 11am to 4pm, from just S$13.90 — super value for money!
