Nestled in the hills of Bukit Timah, Fat Belly Steakhouse is raising the steaks in the neighbourhood.
Headed by Chef Spencer Lau, the restaurant takes pride in sourcing their lesser-known cuts of meat, from beef to pork and more. They highlight rarer parts of the animal, showcasing the talents of butchers and award-winning farms from across the world.

After choosing from their seasonal roster of meats, each cut is charcoal grilled and rested before serving, for that perfect sear and cook.

Their menu is short and sweet, which is perfect for the indecisive eater. It features simple starts and sides to pair with cuts fresh off the sizzling charcoal grills. There’s even a section of mains for the less carnivorous few.
We started off with the Toasted Sourdough (S$6) and Raclette Cheese with Crispy Bacon (S$18). The bread was crispy, which paired perfectly with the melted cheese and butter.
It’s definitely a heavier start to the meal, but I’m not complaining.

For our sides, we got the Pomme Puree (S$10) and Fried Brussels Sprouts with Garum Caramel and Savoury Granola (S$14).
The mash was silky smooth and a great accompaniment to the steak served alongside.
Of course, you can’t have a steak dinner without a green vegetable side to counter the soft Pomme Puree. The brussels sprouts were crispy, packed with crunch, and had a subtly sweet caramel — almost like they were candied.

Peep the Full Blood Wagyu Denver (S$65) from 2GR Blue Label, Australia. This cut was on the fattier side, beautifully marbled, and because of that, incredibly soft. It practically melted in our mouths.

Next up is a leaner cut – American Wagyu Picanha from Snake River Farms, USA (S$55). This would be for those who want something less greasy. It’s less fatty than the Denver, but with a firmer, more satisfying chew.

To end on a sweet note, we had the Signature Tiramisu with Creme Chantilly (S$14). It was delicate and fluffy, with just the right hit of coffee to close the evening on a bold note.

Don’t be fooled by the scaffolding around Serene Center. There’s a hidden gem beneath it—just follow the scent of charcoal and sizzling fat.
