The team behind popular The Halal Corner has launched another concept, now serving a range of gourmet double patty smashed burgers and dirty fries along Arab Street

When you think of the eateries along Arab Street, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? I’d bet five dollars you’ll say Turkish and Middle Eastern food.

Well, you’re not wrong but the guys behind the popular The Halal Corner are trying to change that idea. They’ve launched a new concept and store — SMASHED, located just a few blocks away from their original restaurant.

Here, it’s all about burgers, specifically smashed burgers (duh). The meat is essentially ‘smashed’ to a thinner patty, locking in all those juices and flavour.

Plus, the patty boasts a crispier texture — perfect for those who like a bit of crunch in their burgers.

I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised at their small and streamlined menu. As someone who’s rather indecisive (not me exposing myself), I appreciate a menu that doesn’t overwhelm with too many options.

It’s also often a clear indication that the food is crafted with precision and care, with no need for frills or unnecessary extras.

And, that’s exactly what I’ve got with their offerings. There are three burger options to choose from: Classic (S$10), House (S$10), and Spicy (S$12).

Classic is your standard American burger with mustard and ketchup, while the House has their signature house sauce. Naturally, the secret sauce recipe is locked away, so we may never know what’s inside.

On the flip side, their Spicy option features sambal balado sauce. It’s not overwhelmingly fiery but rather a gentle heat that lets the burger take centre stage.

Regardless of which type you opt for, all of them come with two beef patties, American cheese, caramelised onion and pickles. All these ingredients (except for the pickles) are made fresh in-house.

They also offer sides like House Fries (S$4) and Dirty Fries (S$6). I’m not going to beat around the bush and say these prices aren’t on the steep side but this is where their Combo comes in.

For an additional S$4, you can upgrade your burger to include House Fries and a drink of your choice. Drinks (S$3 for a la carte) include iced lemon tea, coke, coke zero, or water.

That said, their Dirty Fries can’t be missed. Loaded with cheese and beef bits, they make for a truly indulgent snack.

I paired it with their House Burger and to say I had a satisfying meal would be an understatement. The House sauce was tangy and packed with flavour, perfectly complementing the juicy patty.

Keep in mind, SMASHED is a takeaway-only spot and that’s totally by design. This means you can enjoy their burgers wherever you like — whether it’s at home, in the car, or anywhere else your cravings take you!
